I would really appreciate it if someone who has the knowledge would
make this emblem for SH5.

Good to know. Please let me know on any other amblem whose "meaning" and relation with the history of the u-boat it was used on, you might be aware of

Thank you nice work.:Kaleun_Salute:

Glad you liked it. Please post a screenie if you can: I made the emblem semi-transparent (with the idea that the metal texture shoul show through the emblem) and I am curious to know if some further finetuning is needed ;)

Thank you guys.

I have hundreds of them on my HD. So far, (almost) every emblem used by all the U-flotillas, U-crews and on U-boats from U-1 to U-455, are represented in my collection. Their average quality is not dissimilar from the emblem I have linked in my previous post.

My initial plan was to release them in a "Total U-boat emblems pack", including all the known emblems, with notes on their meaning/story (if known), and availability dates/renown costs roughly based on their actual usage during the war and on the popularity/success of the boats/Captains which used them. I might still work on this long-therm project during my free time, but if you are interested, I can release a beta version including just the textures I have ready :salute:

Great if you can release a Mod pack.
I started a new career but it did not show up as a selectable emblem.
Has it something to do with my sub being a Type VIIA or renown?

Great if you can release a Mod pack.

Setting up and releasing my emblems as a mod would take long, and I have not enough time right now. In future, I hope.
I could nonetheless pack the textures as they are, for use as AFFOE's "custom emblems". :hmm2:

What is the problem? Is the new emblem displayed in the upgrades menu, but you can't select it, or rather it doesn't show up at all? How did you enable it? How did you set the emblem for use in game?

I put the U-89 DDS File into SH5 -Data- Textures -TNormal -tex.
The new emblem is not displayed in the upgrades menu.

Simply dropping the new emblem in the tex folder, is not enough for the game to recognize it. You should either enable A Fistful of Emblems (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1314078&postcount=1) and follow its instructions on how to use custom emblems with it (beware mod incompatibilities though), or follow my instructions (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2173606&postcount=3) on how to add new emblems in game

should the other methods I have suggested yesterday not be viable for you, you can always overwrite one of the stock emblems with the new one.

Thank you, Lindley

I know uboataces.com. It is one of the most complete on-line resources when it comes to u-boat emblems, and I often use it as reference. On the other hand, its emblems (which, I think, are scans taken from Hogel's Embleme, Wappen, Malings) are quite small, and I only use them as templates for my own work when I haven't anything better.

My other on-line general resources include also:

http://uboat.net/special/emblems/

Excellent emblem pictures and drawings can also be found in the magazines of the U-Boot im Focus series :salute:

Sorry for the late reply Lindley. Somehow I had overlooked your post :)

I did try the other method but I could not get it to work.

The probable reason is that you tried to "activate" the new emblem in an old campaign. Any change to u-boat upgrade files requires a campaign restart. I should have mentioned it from the beginning...

Nice screenie by the way, but I can't clearly see emblem's transparency from it. Is the horizontal welding visible through the emblem itself? Does their blending look natural enough?

Yes it looks good in my opinion.I get a bit of system lag using SH5.
I do not use SH5 as much as I did SH3.With all the great Mods plus Commander I found SH3 to be a much better experience.
I am eagerly awaiting the release of Wolves of the Kaiser:1914-1918 Mod :http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=156161.
Shells of Fury had great intensions but was a very basic game especially graphics wise.
On a side note many years ago an elderly relative on my mothers side told me of his Grandfathers encounter with a German U-Boat during the First World War. They live on an Island in West Cork called Bear Island.
His Grandfather was out fishing with some others off the coast when they were approached by a German U-Boat on the surface.
One of the crew spoke English and enquired about their catch and if they would do a trade for some of the fish.More interestingly he asked why the Irish fought with the Crown forces in France instead of with the Kaiser against England.

This story is quiet plausible many German U-Boats operated in Irish waters during the Great War.
Also Roger Casement had tried to use this to raise an Irish Brigade to fight with Germany against England.
