View Full Version : Graprical Glitch In Vicker's Balao Interior
I've been using Vicker's interior overhaul mods with RFB for some time with no apparent adverse effects. I know RFB did incorporate some of his interiors, but I believe it was only for the Gato and Balao class.I came across his Balao 3d interior overhaul in the D/L section. This seems to be an upgraded Balao interior based on Uss Pompanito. I installed the mod, and it looks fantastic except for one thing. For me, the depth gauges read different depths. The right hand and center (deep 600' gauge) read correctly, but the left hand gauge reads a different depth. It's almost as if the dial pointer is reversed. Strange to say the least, but not a big deal. I just position the view to block that gauge:03: Any ideas though?
Has anyone tried this mod found here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3752 Anybody have the issue mentioned in the above post?
Do you know how to use S3D ?? Almost every gauge can be adjusted by editing the sim files. I mapped the stock, TMO, and Vickers gauges for my own information and I haven't seen this problem in any of Vickers interiors.
You're saying, in the Control room, the small gauge reads 600' and operates correctly but the left planesman's 165' gauge indicator points and operates backwards?
The interior wasn't made for RFB and that may be the problem is all I can think of. Sorry that I don't have a RFB install to test this at the moment.
Thanks aanker. You're correct. The right planesman and center gauge reads correctly, but the left planesman gauge is off. I realize the mod was made for TMO, but the Sargo/Salmon interior is just fine. I'm not going to start messing with files to adjust the gauge, as it's not a show stopper.
You got my curiosity up... lemme see if I can do something tomorrow.
Sorry. I spent quit a bit of time on this today with S3D, RFB files & Vickers BALAO Interior files, and long story short it isn't compatible - or easily 'quick fixed', at least by me.
In RFB, GATO \Interior sim Dial #128 is #137 (depth) for some reason, and without installing RFB I am unsure what that means and how it relates to the Control Room gauges in \Submarine, or why, or if that is even important...
Oddly enough though, that #137 dial may be associated with the left planesman's 165' depth gauge.... the numbers look right for it.
I want to install RFB someday when I can get back into wanting to play and mod SH4 again. Well, sorry... that's all I found out today.
Happy Hunting!

Thanks for the effort aanker. I appreciate it. Like I said, it's no biggie for me. I just position the control room view as to hide that gauge. It's a small price for a beautiful interior. Unless I notice a striking problem that arises in the future, I'll stay with it. Thanks again.

you should PM Vickers03 and ask him, he still drops by.
you should PM Vickers03 and ask him, he still drops by.
Also, I wonder if Luke is still around. I think he did the RFB gauges & Interiors and would know about #137 under #128.
When mapping gauges I would put ridiculous values on a few of them, start SH4 and see what gauges moved..... over and over until I got all of them.
I would use this process with Vickers BALAO Interior installed on top of RFB to find and adjust that planesman's depth gauge in Vickers outstanding mod. Probably not the right way but it worked..... a lot of work though.

if its the same guy, LukeFF is now a beta tester for "Rise of flight", I have not seen him post here in a long time.
I had looked a lot at these files awhile back. As I recall, the 165 depth gauge are easy to spot since the numbers 0-165 appear. I also recall the TMO and RFB versions are very different under the skin, so you cant just mix and match.
I had created a mod awhile back where I split the Gato and Balao interior and re-installed the 450 depth gauges in the TMO Gato so it is not that difficult.
Opening up the RFB and TMO files in S3d and comparing them should make it clearer what the problem is.
I am planning to instal Vickers latest mod to my Balao/Tench interior, so I may be able to figure out what is wrong, but that won't be until my sub is back in port from its current patrol.
That sounds like Luke.
Typically my 165' gauges are 15' - 165' and my notes look like this for those... if these are the planesman gauges:
----------
#145/v#151 Depth
DispVal Min -134.0 Max 137.0
RealVal Min 4.572 Max 50.292
Command=Set depth
----------
#147 Depth (is #153 Vickers)
DispVal Min -134.0 Max 137.0
RealVal Min 4.572 Max 50.292
Command=Set depthI know how to make a simple thing super complicated don't I.... lol
I am looking forward to your mod... it sounds great and maybe that will fire me back up into the spirit of things. It is hard to describe losing interest - and - for no reason.

If anyone could come up with a quick fix/patch (if possible), that would be great, otherwise not an issue for me.
As a side note. Luke did incorporate Vicker's Gato and Balao interior into RFB. The interior in question seems to be an upgraded Balao based on the interior of USS Pompanito. As I mentioned, I use Vicker's Salmon/Sargo interior which RFB did not incorporate, and everything seems and looks fine. It has something to do with this particular Balao interior.
Okay to be sure I get this right...
You installed RFB 2.0
You installed the patch? RFB_2.0_Patch_23April2010

You want this beautiful interior?

I'm set to go. Just tell me if I forgot anything before I begin please.

That's correct aanker. I really appreciate your effort. I hope this is not putting you out in any way. I'm in no rush. Thanks again.
Thank you, and no problem. I knew someone who used to say, "modding is the game". I'm installing the mods now in a Multi-SH4 clean install.
--------------------- 11/26/2013:
Making progress - good lead, appears to be configured to be a trim gauge so hopefully I'll locate the depth gauge sooner than I thought.
Patience, right :)
Okay, as far as I can tell I was successful. I also adjusted a few other gauges that weren't right after this merge. It was quite a bit of work mapping the gauges to find the correct gauges to adjust, but your 165' gauge works now.
I like this interior a lot and of course I like the RFB.
I'll post a couple screenshots, figure out a name for this patch that doesn't offend anyone (Vickers or the RFB team) and upload it. Of course without S3D this would have been impossible.

Aanker, I can't thank you enough! Enjoy your Thanksgiving (I'll be working this morning). Just call it "Vicker's Balao Interior (RFB version)" Easy, and to the point:up: Thanks again Bro.
I made a patch that fixes the glitch in the gauges that happens if the user installs Vickers03 mod on RFB. Previously this mod by Vickers03 was compatible with Stock & TMO but was not with RFB - until now!
Using my patch, Vickers03's outstanding mod should now be compatible with RFB and can be found here:
