View Full Version : suggestions about "how to mod sh3"

hi guys, I just reinstalled sh3 after decades, and I know nothing about how the modding of the game has evolved over the years ... I wanted to ask about the best list of mods for every area of the game: gameplay, graphics, etc.
I have seen many videos on youtube of DD and I was impressed by the new interior of the uboots and the ability to move freely inside the submarine as sh5, complete with a new engine room, torpedo room and crew accommodation ( i thins is the FM_INTERIORS mod ), animations of 'crew ....
then of course I wanted to ask if there was possibility of installing this type of mods on supermods as GWX or LSH3 (on which I still know little or nothing)
simply put I wanted to ask what is your list of mods used, with name and version (Im particularly interest to the interior's mods and graphic's mods, for the gameplay I think that one of the supermods is suffice ... or not?) ... of course, if you want answer, do it about your tastes
I think the biggest improvement in graphics will come from installing an environment mod like MEP v4.3 and the new interiors mod by FM which I think is version 2.1D. That only works on type VII boats though. A GUI mod will also enhance gameplay a lot and will look better than the default. I'll post my list when I get on my PC.
As promised here's my modlist. These are all installed, in this order, on top of GWX. So fresh install of SH3 1.4b and then GWX installed on top of that and then these mods.
(Ignore the numbers in front of the mod names. They just help me remember the install order.)

GWX - Merged Campaign is useful if you are going from Atlantic/Baltic ports to Med or Indian Ocean patrol areas (or returning) during a patrol. If you are not, you incur the penalty of a greatly increased loading time for no benefit. Check the GWX 3.0 manual, page 31 for more information.

Commander works perfectly well with GWX. There is one extra file that must be downloaded.

SH3 Commander is an external program with several functions. It lets you control parameters within the game with a touch of a button, rather than fiddling with files yourself. It does for your career what mods like GWX do for the gameplay. It adds historical names to the ships you sink. It chooses from more than a billion possible crew names. It gives your captain a background and a future after retirement. It lets you award as many medals and qualifications as you want when you want, rather than waiting for the game to dole out one or two per patrol. It does a lot of things, all of them good. :sunny:

SH3 Commander is absolutely IS COMPATIBLE with GWX. You have to change a couple of SH3 Commander .cfg files, which can be done automatically. Check out the links on this thread to download everything you need. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=208999
SH3 Commander is a "must-have" for adding immersion to a career. It lets you easily control a lot of features of SH3 that are otherwise buried in the data files. It provides time-sequenced performance changes as the war progresses. It also does a lot of other, more technical stuff, if you care to use it, but those things are invisible if you don't want them. It even provides you with a bistro to hang out in between patrols, complete with Monique, the chanteuse from Das Boot.

This list was taken directly from an Aces post but i added the Merchant fleet mod and some radio mods. What should i change in that list to have it up to date? iŽd like to have the new Manos environment and the Merchant fleet mod activated if possible. Thanks!
With the list previously provided by jonmar can i activate the said mods? (MFM and MEP)
There is currently any way to play in real wide-screen and not having things messed up?

Depthcharge Shake v2.01 won't work properly as the camera.dat is being overwritten by later mods, so you'll lose the violent shaking when being depth charged.

I see a video with the OLC mod.... it seems very nice....no one use it? if im not wrong, is a mod for the Manual targeting and some other issue ( like new binocular e new interface )....but I saw that there is another mod called: MaGuiF....what's the better?

Commander doesn't care when it's installed. It works entirely outside the game.

Those I can't comment on, as I use neither. There are plenty who do use one or the other, though, so you'll hear from someone soon.

I've used both and I prefer MaGui. A few things: OLC Gold is a combo pack that comes with an environment mod and the OLC gui. They are tailor made for each other. MaGui is just a GUI so you can combine it with any environment mod you like. Also MaGui was built using OLC's gui as a base so all of the functionality of OLC is in MaGui plus some extra stuff. Also in my opinion it looks nicer.

I want to know how to change the speeds of gun turrets. You know, how fast they traverse. The fact that one turret turns faster than another that is essentially the same, really bugs me.

In the .sim file there is a traverse setting.
Speed per second being how many degrees per second the turret can turn or elevate. There's a setting for both.
