:o They spy on us! Eeeeeeek...!

http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/revelation-of-spy-nest-in-british-berlin-embassy-angers-germans-a-931868.html

Naive Germans. Dear Germans, if you want others not spying on you, i advise you to do this: become strong in spionage so that you are able to fight them off and prevent them from successfully doign what they do. That is what counter-espionage is about.

To accuse the Americans or the British of trying to steal our economic and business secrets is as rational as to accuse German export industry to be stronger than that of those complainig about it.

Dear Germany, fight foreign intel off instead of crying about their operations!
Dear America - become economically stronger yourself instead of crying about us hvaign strong exports (the same greeting goes to France, England and the EU).

Too good that Germany's diplomatic elite has forced America to accept singing an anti-spying-treaty. That will teach America its limits, I'm sure. :har:

Oh, come on. Its not like you guys don't do it.

Spying on politicians is a fact lf life. Hell, even the tabloids do it!

Your telling me that during the cold war (West) Germany didn't build up its own espionage network?

Or that it's a complete surprise to Germans that spying ever took place from Teufelsberg, even when it looked like this (but in better state of repair)? -

I don't think the Brits spy. That's to crude and not British as they say.
I'd think it would be called 'a Clandestine Inquirey'.

The British ambassador in Berlin has been called in to Germany's foreign ministry to respond to spying allegations.
The UK's Independent newspaper says the British embassy in Berlin may house a "top-secret listening post".
It cites leaked US National Security Agency (NSA) documents suggesting the UK could be using hi-tech equipment housed on the embassy roof.

No no my dear sir. One does not speak of such things under any circumstances.

Spying on allies makes sense. You know your enemies are up to no good - with your friends you need to check...

That'S the Teufelsberg in Berlin. The sinstallation was maintained by the US, if I am correctly informed.

Even back then they already spied on us...:Kaleun_Mad:!

Yes it was a US installation, but with a totally separate British contingent of 26 Signals Unit, and it was within the British zone. A much more discrete one at Marienfelde too, but all American. :sunny:

No. That's a Smokeing area.
No. There was a leak on the roof and this covered it until repairs could be done.
No. It was side bet. 2 contractors bet one of them couldn't get Golf Balls in the design of the roof.
No. That whole section was designed for the Presidental Golf thing but due to standard Governmental screw ups? Ended up in Germany.

:hmmm:
I got nothing else. The I'm Sorry scene from a Cheech and Chong Movie probably says it best.

And whilst searching for a good Stan and Hilda pic I came across this from 1974 -

http://showbizgeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Screen-Shot-2013-05-03-at-11.05.55.png
Back row: Betty Williams (Betty Driver, died 2011), Annie Walker (Doris Speed, died 1994), Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander).
Front row: Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear), Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire), Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride), Mavis Wilton (Thelma Barlow), and Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox).

Who'd have thought Emily Bishop scrubbed up so well in her younger days?
