Today is supposed to be the last day when the temperature doesn't get above zero. I'm actually having trouble believing that. It's been brutal here, I tell you. Worst winter I can remember :dead:

Well we survived the night but it was scary. House shook all night, but we didn't lose power. Some did. The Island is basically shut down. Police are advising everyone to stay off the roads. The Confederation Bridge is closed to all traffic. That's only happened a few times. Weather people say winds will be NW 75 km/h with gusts up to 130 km/h. It has stopped snowing but the stuff is still blowing around. Guess I'll stay put. :D

It was that kind of crud that caused a woman to spin out and slide backwards into the lift axle on a 5 axle tank I was pulling a few years ago. I told the attending cop that she was lucky that it was me she hit and not a freight trailer. She would have been decapitated if she had hit a 53' tandem trailer. (No lift axles in the middle of the trailer).

A few years back I was working for C-F and got a call to go up to Donner pass. Some lady spun on ice and slid far enough under a 38' pup to brake off the drain valve on the front air tank. Small car went right under and didn't hurt the driver and only dinged up the car some. Went between the landing legs and rear axle and than spun right back out.
One lucky lady. The truck was only going about 15 MPH, it was that slick.

Many years ago there was a cop that was harassing gravel haulers unmercifully. Every chance he had he got out his trusty ticket book and wrote them up, if he didn't have a charge in the H.T.A., then he made one up. I think his purpose was to get them to waste all their time in court, whether the charges were bona-fide or not, then they couldn't haul gravel. Well the story goes that he (the cop) pulled over one of the haulers that he had pulled over many times before, only this time it was in the evening. The driver enticed the cop to go around to the passenger side of the truck. Now understand this was a pretty big 'in shape' cop. The cops' gun and badge did NOT save him from the beating he got that day. It was shortly after the cop got out of hospital that he quit the force.
It doesn't matter how big you are, there is always someone out there that is bigger and will hurt you if you give them the opportunity.

We are supposed to get up to 39 here today.
I boo-booed the other day and scraped the snow and slush off the driveway. Over night it froze, now I can ice skate on it. Smmmmmmmmmoooooooooooooth as silk. I had to put down some ashes so I could walk to the garage from the house. But it will warm up again and the slush will go, hopefully soon. We've still got 2' of snow on the lawns.

Labour Day 2014 In 2014 Labour Day is Monday September 1.

Labour Day in Canada is celebrated on the first Monday of September and it is a federal statutory holiday. It is also observed in the United States on the same day. Many other countries celebrate Labour Day on May 1st.
This holiday officially celebrates workers and the labour union movement, however, most of us only think of it as the last long weekend of the summer, a perfect occasion for one last BBQ or canoe trip. Many seasonal attractions and vendors close after the labour day long weekend and it is generally the start of the fall shoulder season.

Note: In the Commonwealth Countries it is spelled "labour", in the United States is spelled "labor".

I'd be burried too if I was buried in snow.

It's not quite that bad. IF you don't see the horse drawn sickle bar mower, or the 2 bottom breaking plow, or the horse drawn spring tooth harrows.:haha:
The 1988 ride on lawnmower is tucked away beside the shed that collapsed under the snow load. And we can not forget the 3 gen sets 2 that are going to be made into 1 that works. And then there is the 16' Crestliner boat that I made into a flower pot.
Yup, I might be a Canadian redneck, but I've been called worse.
At least my house doesn't have wheels, nor were wheels ever on it. I do have 15 Pro Comp 30x9.5x15 mud tires stashed away out of the sun for when I retire.:D

Slacker? :haha:
My lawn tractor is in the uncollapsed garage. Probably with a now dead battery.:-? There is an old window air conditioner in the grotto out back that I use as a table. I also have the remnant floor of a collapsed shed back there. It's covered with assorted junk that won't fit in the garage.

I just realised why it is snowing. The 4x4's beside the Jeep are to set the snowblower on.

It's warming up here. Enough to shut the furnace down and save some fossil fuel for next winter. Now I have to clean the bloody thing.:-?

The March winds are late and howling out there at the moment. Very disgusty weather. :O:

I call a guy in to clean my furnace, but I do sweep both woodstove chimneys myself. Every ten years I get a licensed guy to come in and re-certify the chimneys.

Since I burn coal there isn't a need to clean the chimney. (No creosote)

But I do have to wash the pipes and the barometric damper with baking soda and water to arrest the acidic rust. Then scrape down the inside of the stove and shovel/vacuum out the fly ash. Cleaning the glass in the door is the worst part. Then I tuck a drop light with a 40 watt bulb in there to keep it all nice and dry until next heating season. After three winters, I should probably pull the hopper off to clean and lubricate the feeder and the fans too.

Work, work work.:arrgh!:

When we burned coal I was too young to care about it.
Back when I was 3 (that was just after the last ice age) my grandparents had a coal furnace that had been converted to oil. Short story, the door blew off the furnace when it lit up. Right across from my bedroom. I never slept in that basement again.

Although that was 64.5 years ago, I still don't trust oil furnaces and I get mine cleaned every year no matter if it has been used for 1 hour or thousands of hours in the winter. I just don't trust them.

North American truckers tan is left arm darker than the right.

Why does the rest of the family have to get up if you are cutting the grass?
The noise of the lawn mower will wake them.

I can't help being considerate of others.:D I know how much it annoys me if I'm awakened by the neighbors doing noisy work in their yard.:-?

One fortunate occurrence happened last week. The neighbor lady fell off her back porch and broke her leg. So she won't be conducting her early morning dog walking for awhile, which always puts our dog in loud barking mode.:yeah:

This is a peeve of mine, inconsiderate neighbors. I was at my fathers a few weeks ago and his neighbors, 4 guys renting the house, got loud. Mostly just redneck yelling. I had my fill by 11PM, lifted the window and yelled.." Do you guys mind shutting the F up...." I was a lil shocked at myself, but my fuse was short. It stopped..

I've got a teen up the road that often cranks his music up during they day...all bass. I called the cops and told them my pictures were vibrating on the wall. You would think people would have more sense. I'll be glad when I get the farmhouse done, I don't like living in neighborhoods..
