View Full Version : Need To Diagnose Feeze

Hi, I would appreciate any tips diagnosing a SH5 lockup/freeze I'm getting in a specific situation. The mod soup appears to be all working fine. New campaign, I'm all set. Before I take any ships down all is fine and I tested that all was fine. As soon as I take down any ship, be it an enemy or friendly fire, the game keeps running but if I select K for captains log or click the captains log SH5 will freeze/lockup and only CTR ALT DEL will bring back task manager from which I can than kill the not responding SH5

I dont have any experimental patches in the TDW generic patcher turned on

The freeze happens everytime it is entirely repeatable. The captains log and every other function I have tried works fine before I sink a ship.

I'm not running out of GPU RAM as I have 4GB in each card (I have two GTX 680s) and it never exceeds 2GB of GPU RAM. While I understand this is a 32 bit application my system has 32 GB of system RAM so theres heaps of ram. I am not running SH5 in SLI it isnt supported.

I tried disabling the following two mods and retesting but unfortunately the problem persists:

As soon as I take down any ship, be it an enemy or friendly fire, the game keeps running but...

From the above statement I get that you are quite casual on the selection of your targets. You should be more careful and make sure not to aim at friendly or neutral ships while you have New UI's enabled. This is due to a limitation of the mod, which causes exactly the problem you have described.

You can check the diplomatic status of each nationality, date by date, from data/Roster/DefSides.cfg :up:

P.S: I have just relaized that plj has anticipated me ;)

Thanks fellas the date issue was the cause of it for enemy kills. Yes plj I am doing testing of my mod list. I'm not trying for realism, I am seeking to debug issues with my modlist and understand known bugs. I'll add this bug to the list of known issues and hopefully TDW will fix it in coming releases - in my view the player should not be able to do anything which cause the game to lock/freeze/crash

Some say it is, some others say it is New UIs related. I never had the patience to test it, but I am inclined to trust the ones asserting that they never had this problem with stock or DrJone's UIs.

I suspect NewUI's of a lot of CTD's myself too ... when I change NewUI version, so does the 'CTD profile' ... however, if I run the validator's for both game and jsgme .. a lot of 'loose ends' turn up. So I think there is a lot of tidying up to do.

Its an easy test to do and Ill do in the next few days. Simple enough to remove all mods, start a new campaign and see how it goes. The more we understand the behaviour the better off we are. Cheers :up:
