So, I've succesfully sunk the destroyer and the minelayer, and the uekel freighter trying to get out of Danzig bay .. set course to the first harbor (bottom one) and at about 4 to 5km out of the harbor decide to engage the little harbor freighter with my deckgun @ ~1500m.

First shot is just over .. second as well, 3rd just in front of bow .. then I hear the radio noise, a message about a radio message intercepted from my radio officer, and then my whole system freezes.

This has happened on a number of occasions now. Is this a known error ? Any way to get rid of it ?

...This has happened on a number of occasions now....

The fact that this is a recursive problem is actually a good news: by now you should be able to tell us if the crash is significantly associated with any gaming event which migh help us in tracking down the cause (use of the deck gun, sinking of ships, incoming radio messages, etc.) :)

Since my torpedo hits so far have been one-hit kills, there was no radio traffic from those attacks .. and offcourse they never saw me comming :arrgh!:

Using the deckgun is the only situation in which they have been trying to radio for help .. I'll disable that feature .. see what that does.

Are you pretty sure it was an enemy ship?

EDIT: because I know of only one case in which the game freezes after the vessel's destruction..

I mean any kind of incoming radio message.

Yes, I thought about it myself, but I know plj as a fine gentleman, and as he said that his problem has iterated a number of times now, I can't imagine him targetting neutral or friedly ships on a regular basis...

Sometimes some Polish ships are recognized by game as German or friendly.. I don't know why and don't ask me :), but a year ago my game freezes after I sunk a Polish ship near Scapa after the Reid.. I tested it several times..

Yeah .. positive. It's one of those coastal ships .. the ones that you can shoot to bits and pieces with your FLAK gun. Flag was polish, harbor was polish .. unless they where pulling my leg, it was a polish ship.

Also, it was not on destruction, it was on radio for help .. the radio sound played, my crewmember said something about an intercepted message, and then the last half second of sound kept playing, and I needed the reset button.

I have been reproducing it a number of occasions now, therefore I'm pretty confident that it has to do with radio for help. If I just blow up their radioroom first, no crases.

I'll review my options file and patch .. maybe I made a mistake there.

Gap, whoever gave you the impression that I'm gentle ? :p

Well, so that's in someway related to the radio patch then..

Radio mod or sound mod:hmmm:

On this occasion Dbgview will be a great help. It will track all radio messages due to be sent on a daily basis and flash up reactive ones.
Surly this will give a clue if it is radio mod.

Failing that - sound files/mods:hmm2:

IIRC, those boats have not national flag. Could be a neutral ship docked in a Polish port? The fact that she only crashes the game if she is given the chance of radioing for help is a bit weird though, and seems to disconfirm my conjecture.

Those boats are from OH, and I have not added radio room compartment to them yet. As a consequence, TDW's patch will assign indestructible radio equipemnent to them by default. :know:

I didn't say "gentle". I just said a "fine gentleman", meaning the most dreadful and crabby gentleman has ever made waves since Sir Francis Drake's death :arrgh!:

Radio mod or sound mod:hmmm:

Yes, good point :yep:
I have been wondering the same since yesterday.
