probably the game engine. but I call it the titanic affliction because as far as shipwrecks are concerned the titanic is one of the only ships not to capsize while going down.

It may not happen often.

But it happens.

Yeah, it's been quite awhile, but I have seen both merchants and warships turn 'turtle' in SH3.

I recently witnessed a ship sink almost vertically:

I believe it sank like this because there was one deep torpedo hit in the bow (a meter to port side and it would have missed).

I would think the capsizing would be more possible if the hit was exactly on the middle of the ship and almost at the edge of water line?

Depends a bit on modelled top-heaviness ...
... the model of the extremely top-heavy Takao class cruisers (converted from SH4) seems to be rather well done :woot:

Usually happens for me when I hit them with 3 torps, 1 in the front 1/3, 1 in the middle 1/3, and 1 in the back 1/3. They usually roll over before going completely under then.

Same here. It doesn't happen often, but I have seen it happen.

I personally fancy this Titanic style. Or a bow shot with fast ones that makes the cut under like a sub. :haha:
