Can I force the weather to change? I do have the Dynamic Environment mods but can I make it Rain or cause a Thunderstorm or even a Hurricane?
I do enjoy playing some games in a harsh thunderstorm or worse if I can make it that way. Ive been running around on the surface hoping to see some lightning or some harsh sea weather somewhere lol

Hmm - you can edit the lasting and change chance of weather. Gap could explain how to set this in the weather controlling map (can't remember name).

Or

If you want fog - click screen three time fast - result is fog for a month:D

At present we can change weather change interval of each weather zone, and we can change their max/min wind speed individually for each season, but we can't change in any way good or bad weather chances (i.e. clouds coverage, fogginess and rain). There are some settings in scene.dat which apparently link wind with rain occurrence, but I doubt they are working: that file is full of SHIII-IV leftovers :-?

If you leave the game and load the save you got other weather conditions than before.

You don't need to see them. Make a wise usage of you hydrophone and you will hear them, which is quite enough in most cases.

P.S: you are the first one who is complaining about too good weather in SH5. Can I link your post in Dynamic Environment thread? I want you as testimonial of the mod :D

Sure Gap. And I think the weather is to good at some points. I know its a subsim and everyone's like uhh its a Simulator not real life. But I think it would be cool if maybe there was violent weather. Most of the time its nothing to fear especially if your in a sub and your 70-100 meters down but you cant stay underwater forever. Sooner or later you have to surface and what if you surface your boat into a huge thunderstorm with horrid winds and your xo spots a Battlecruiser just as it spots you with its lights? Anyway still a fun game. Much love to subsim and everyone who takes the time to make the mods that make Silent Hunter all the more greater :subsim:

Just so you know ... if you can make it so that my weather is between stormy and hurricane most of the time, I'd immediately sacriffice my deckgun for that :p

I just love the thunder storms in SH5

I agree I also use dynamic env mod and think the weather is far too good, the best (worst weather) I have come across is in sh3 GWX and that is grey weather, bit like here in the UK !!!

What is going on here, guys?

I was allready prepared to face harsh complaints about sustained bad weather using SH5 and DynEnv. Some joker has even tagged DynEnv's home thread with a "fog" tag (:shifty:), but I swear this is the first time in almost three years of activity that I ear about a "too good weather" SH5 problem.

I has nonetheless allready been noted that, unlike foggy and overcast weather, rain and thunderstom occurrences are a bit too low... As for wave height, in game they are strictly connected with win speeds, and wind speed is limited to 15 m/s. A workaround to this problem could be increasing wave height settings, unrespective of their relative wind spees. We could for instance set 15 mps wind waves to be as high as one would expect from a 30 mps wind gale, and we could ask our talented UI modders to multiply the wind speed reported in game by two. Nonetheless, I am not sure how ship physics would react to those huge waves :hmmm:

I just love the thunder storms in SH5

Me too. Pity that they are not very common.
For more variation, I think I could easily add new lightning textures and thunder sound effects to DynEnv, but increasing thunderstorm occurrence is unfortunately not as easy...

Nasty weather is one thing that would be cool but,
Im not sure how I would react if I was on the surface
or even at periscope depth and saw a 100ft wave headed at me going
500 mp/h. Id probably crash dive and hope for the best lol.

You'd better ... afaik, storms can damage your sub .. either that or I was in a storm AND a minfield or under fire without noticing that :p

For sure high waves can damage AI surface vessels. Woth a try on a surfaced U-boat with RSD enabled :03:

That's how I found out: Cool!! ... thunderstorm .. lets watch from the tower ... nice waves ... whut ? damage reports ?? This stuff is realistic ..... NEW DEPTH 20 meters!!

Cool!

This answers a question which has been asked several times on the forum: why not to model higher waves? We can have them, but AI ship physics and AI sub behaviour should be updated accordingly...
