Hi I've found this forum a few weeks ago.

I have installed Gwx 3.0, MEP 4.2 and Ma GUI F, and i was enjoying it but some gamebreaking details are bothering me. In clear nights and days, crew spotting distances and my own spotting distance are somehow equal, but in dark nights, or heavy raining days, they see much better than i can, which i could accept. The problem is if the enemy can see us too we are screwed because once they have shouted enemy spotted, they no longer keep warning me and i can't keep awareness of the situation.

In a pitch black night i can order my deck gun to shoot an invisible (for me) merchant and they hit it, but same thing do enemy crews when they detect us and I still can't see anything.
So i've been reading about visuals and I'd like to know what values in which files should I change to adjust vsibility. On the other hand, colors and environment look great, and i don't mind pitch black nights if only ai crews, mine and enemy, could see as much as i can, which should be zero in that case.

Anyway this game with so many mods is awesome.I had an unforgetable experience in scapa flow, and an unexpected encounter with a task force in open waters which really surprised me. Amazing job

Use the patch by H.Sie in the thread "Realism and hardcode fixes"

I'm not using h.sie hardcode fixes because when I download the compressed file V16B1-Patch-Kit.7z the antivirus detects Win32.Autoinfector.a. Perhaps it's a false positive but I won't switch off the antivirus. I download lots of files and it seldom detects anything.

Is it possible to play the game without h.sie fixes? All i need to know is which data controls AI detection range, or why night colors are so dark. Maybe I could turn back colors to original settings but my knowledge about colors and environment is pretty much non existent.

The "vampire Ai crew night vision" is a stock bug, only fixed by hsieīs hardfix. This hardfix is a must and all itīs features are optional. It donīt have virus.

It has no simple solution, because it is a kind of game limitation. Originally the game was conceived for 8km world, back when PCs were less powerful and the game new. Modders stretched the SH3 world to 20 kms around the uboat, and at that point it became obvious that day and night vision were not enough apart.

There is no easy fix for that, it took years until H.Sie broke into it with his code changes. The only other solutions were imperfect, like the "Vampire vision fix" mentioned by Rubini, but if you don't want to use H.Sie's patch, then give them a try.

Also, NYGM mod had some of the most refined sensors available before H-Sie's patch appeared, you can try that mod and see if you llike the results better.

Thank you both. I'll do as you say. Will try NYGM and perhaps later on I'll open H.Sie file. I have to do it because I'm addicted to patrol the seas with a U-boat and manual targeting :yep:. Best simulator i know of.

Finally my problem with dark nights is solved using filters. Lately I've been using WideScreen MaGui and I made yellow filters with Gimp, like the ones in MaGui F (254 Red 254 Green 10% Alpha). Also, there is a button for periscope filters in bottom left of the Gui, but it works all the time in every screen. It's useful for bridge or external views.
