We don't really have orders in campaign mode. Here's how the page could look:

http://i.imgur.com/CFyyrus.jpg

The text is a rough pdf capture of an actual order given to a U-boat by the Captain of U-boat command Norway in 1943.

A.
We could have a very small mod that just changes the F8 page look in a way that would make the order page look a little bit more authentic but didn't actually change during the campaign.

B.
We could have an intermediate mod that changed the order page a few times during the war in the style:

1. an order page for grid patrolling
2. an order page for changing base
3. an order page for sailing into the Mediterranean
4. an order page to evacuate to Norway in 1944

C.
We could also have a huge mod that would try to get an actual picture of one Flotilla, simulating the kind of orders that they would have received month by month. The war diaries of U-boat captain Norway and Italy are available at least partly in the internet and if this kind of mod is done I would suggest using them as a base. A kind of "Mediterrranean orders mod" where the orders would follow the spirit of orders given to actual boats. Technically SH3Commander could be used to change the orders page depending on the current game date.

I'm tempted on the C-version mod, but I doubt I would ever have the time, IT knowhow and patience to actually follow this through.

Is there any interest on this kind of mod?

The closest thing to your idea is a mod called 'WB's Mission Orders' by Wreford-Brown, which works in conjunction with SH3 Commander. This is what it's about:

There should be a newer version around, suitable for GWX 3. Search the forum and you'll find many references to it, though I couldn't find its specific thread.

Thanks dcb, I'll download WB's mod after the dl section starts working again :)

Hi sublynx,

This idea kind of looks like something that is right up my alley. I might at least have some info for you in the sense that some of my research from the JFO! Mod might give you some info about what obstacles you may have to overcome.

In the meantime, can you point me to the source from where you got those orders? I can't seem to find it. I assumed it was www.uboatarchive.net, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanx in advance. :salute:

You don't need to wait. All WB's mods are consolidated here:

Just browse the pretty long list and you'll find it somewhere near the bottom of the page.

You can find the war diaries and some other interesting Kriegsmarine docs from this collection:

I guess that you and Wreford-Brown would be a kind of dream team to tackle the C-version of the idea here as your JFO! is a kind of taking BdU's Standing War Orders into SH3 and WB has made a mod for giving orders to individual boats. I haven't seen WB's orders mod yet, though. Thanks dcb for the link, I'll dl it asap!

I'm toying with the idea of trying to find the time and energy to develop this into a new mod, but I think it would be somewhat overwhelming just for me to try. But if there's interest, maybe this could be done as a collective effort.
