Hello,

Rosomaha did a model of an early Vosper motor torpedo boat (MTB) (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=204544&page=2), which I like very much.

He gave the permission to convert it for use in SH3. So, here's the converted plain model, without the torpedo system and without the smoke generator. I added a few extra texures and a few items:

The entire fleet:

Many thanks to Rosomaha for the great model !!! :salute:

Hi Frog,

These bastards seems to do pretty good in using both sonars. Were those MTBs fitted with sonars in reality ? :huh:

Hello,

depends on the sources; some state the MTBs had sonars, some state they hadn't. Personally, it do not think they had.
I added early versions of hydrophones/sonars, to make the MTBs a bit more challenging.

I see, is there a way to remove sonars if I find it too chalenging ? :)

Yes.

Locate the file NPT_Vosper72.sns (... data\sea\NPT_Vosper72), open it with a text editor, find [Sensor 2] and [Sensor 3], replace the entries following LinkName= by NULL.
The desired result should be:

[Sensor 2]
NodeName=H01
LinkName=NULL
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231

[Sensor 3]
NodeName=N01
LinkName=NULL
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231

Thank you, did you also added the ability of depth charge to this unit ? I'm looking at the model 72' in the web of it but I can't see DC emplaicement ?

The model has the correct depth charge loadout of Vosper MTBs.

The 70' version could carry a maximum of four but were optional.

... and some 72''s had 8 roll-off racks ... the typical number on 72.6''s was 4.

Sailor X, in case you do not like MTBs chasing you, locate the file NPT_Vosper72.eqp, open it with a text editor and change the LinkName= of the W01 to W04 entries to NULL.

Ok so I removed sonars but left DC emplaced :)

IMO motor boats are too small units for effective sonar duty.. :hmmm:

I'm asking myself right now, where would the Vopsers have had the space for a sonar/asdic. The Vosper already was a pretty cramped boat without asdic/sonar. The other question is of what use the sonar would have been for MTB when they normally operated in everything else but ASW warfare.

Nevertheless Frog thank you very much for the Vosper (and all the other beauties you made) and if you are bored and you don't know what kind of gem you want to model next (which i highly doubt), maybe you should take a closer look on this beauty:

For those who are interested in the achievements of the Royal Navy's Coastal Forces, you may want to take a look on this site:
http://www.coastal-forces.org.uk/index.html

From the site:
Coastal forces made an enormous contribution to WW2 in every theatre of war

900 actions resulting in 400 enemy vessels sunk
more torpedoes fired than the submarine service with a greater proportion of hits
vital intelligence gathered for D Day
landing and retrieving agents on enemy coastlines
by 1946 over 2000 vessels and 30,000 personnel formed Coastal forces
3000 decorations won including 4 Victoria Crosses

greetings to all sailors... Deck gun on Mtb Vosper solve all problems :Kaleun_Wink:
My favorite shelling...only if they have a torpedo to fire on me...that's be a real problem...I experienced that in Sh4 mod Ksd
