View Full Version : Finally! Rough seas have impact on sub's speed and range(with high TC)

Since i started to sail with SH5 i was annoyed by the fact that high seas do not have any kind of impact to sub's speed and range with TC over 32. I though that problem is not so easy to solve until i try to increase 3Drender value (C/user/my documents/sh5/cfg/main.cfg)! And finally, i have realistic u-boat behavior, like in SH3,SH4... No CTD and bugs so far...

I hope you'll find this interesting... Now, real navigation and dead reckoning, without navigator's help, are going to be much more complicated!

Hi Sober! No one forcing you to stay in 3D environment with high TC, why would you do that?! Use map view while you sailing accros the Atlantic with 256TC and note what's happening with speed gauge... There is no more unrealistic "ironing" and speed increase which i find totally stupid...Realistic gameplay is very important for me.

Here's small video for players which didn't have contact with SH3 or SH4... http://youtu.be/jc5vI178ieo

Pay attention to speed gauge with high TC ...

Veeery well done :yeah:
Thank you :salute:

I always thought how to fix it but never thought that it's so simple :salute:

You mention a setting changed but didn't indicate what change you made. Increase to what?

Just increase value in the 3DRender= up to value you want.. e.g. I have Maximum=1024 so I increased 3DRender=1024..

The 3DRender value is the maximum Time Compression setting at which the game will render 3D. Currently it will only render 3D up to a TC of 32 ( the default 3DRender = 32 ), so at TC=64 things would 'smooth out' as the game ignores waves and wind etc.
I also noticed that by putting my setting to 256 that audio messages from the crew continue to play at that higher TC ( like the Navigator calling out a weather report ).

I set my 3DRender=256 as that's the usual TC I use when I travel in open water. I'll have to see if that setting's a bit too high as I approach a port.

I've noticed that too but really it's not a big deal...

I think 256 is a way to hight for port proximity, everything above 64 is very CTD risky ... Not to mention how many times i've found my boat spining in the woods due to high TC...:)

Haha.. ya that's too high when near port.:D
I meant that with 3DRender set to 256 there will be rendering (including audio) even at lower settings [ like tc 64 ], so there would be a higher load on the computer than there was before when approaching port at those lower TC settings.
( Happy to say I've not run aground yet even using Real Nav.. but I've been really close! )
