hello everybody,

I installed the sober's mod soup and finally got it to work. After sinking 2 freighters near the baltic operation zone, I realized that I had 2 promotion points and that It wasn't necessary to be in the bunker to apply them. So I went for Total Revealing.

Later, being hunted by two destroyers, I told the sonarguy to use it. Now, for 15 hours or something like that, I have a voice (I think is my second's) that tells me as if I was in the surface, the bearing of the nearest ship, but the sonarguy doesn't seem able to follow by hydrophone any target. I can hear the destroyers, but the sonarguy doesn't tell me if they are near or not.

Also, from time to time, somebody spots a periscope and gets obssessed with it, telling me the bearing of the supposed periscope instead of the bearing of the nearest destroyer, which would be a lot more interesting!

So, I have done something wrong? It is supposed to work that way?

Thanks!

Don't know about other things, but what i know for sure, is if you can see boats/destroyers, hydro guy is deaf!...and inverse of course.
Only one sens at a time

Oh! Ok. Thanks, I can live with that.

Another thing, do you know the range of total revealing? I mean, it's the hydrophone range or the watch officer`s range? I reckon hydro range is greater, isn't it? So with total revealing I would be loosing detection range for 15 hours?

The periscope thing is bugging me a lot! It doesn't always happen though.

Sorry, never ever used the total revealing :-?
As for the periscope issue, never heard about this one either
Maybe someone else will be able to help you.

Total revealing takes Benno longer than finding hidden enemies which is nearly immediate. You must be submerged for total revealing (TR) which lasts for much longer than the hidden enemy function has gone. If, as in a pea-soup fog, u surface to fire with the ships gun the TR will dissipate and u must resubmerge to reacquire. In fog there is a water reflection which actually gives the true location of the target and ship type. do not fire eels directly at the TR position as it is slightly off, but rely on the surface reflection, the ship speed and be mindful of the 300 meter eel arming distance; and when surfaced after an eel strike, finish with the 88 firing blindly at first, listening for the shell hits but ready to turn or reverse when thje cripple becomes visible. Sorry I did not respond earlier but I just acquired this thru hard experience off Freetown in abysmal visibility while stauking the Winston Special. Viel Gluck Kaleun:arrgh!: There is no hydro for what u can see: so in a convoy visibles have no grey line.

Hmm, sorry, I don't think I understand what you said... TR only works while submerged. If I surface, TR doesn't work but IF I dive again, It will continue to work properly if the time hasn't expired. Is that correct?

I play with no contacts and with real navigation, when I took TR I was expecting to see marks appearing in the map screen, but they didn't. As I see it, I just traded a sonarguy for the watch officer, so I don't really see the point of TR. It is even worse, because I don't know if a ship is close or far away with TR.

Maybe I am doing something wrong...

What I don't understand is what you said about the fog and the reflexions (has it something to do with TR?). Please, could you explain a little bit more?

Correct; in my gold edition of the game, the TR shows when the sub is submerged: dissipates when re surfaced and restores after another dive and outlasts the find hidden enemies function considerably. Used in peasoup fog to hunt a slow convoy, it guides u to the target. but on the surface at slow speed there CAN BE a reflection of the target, not a function of TR, on the water enough to tell u its type and actual location to properly aim the eels and use the deck gun. only at 200 yards could I actually see the vessal in time to avoid a collision. naturally their gunners cannot see u either and there were no escorts. I had asked for both find enemies and TR. :arrgh!:No contacts! "yer a braver mon than I Gunga DIn."
