The patriots played poorly. They should've lost the game at the rate they were playing. Good thing they came back, but still, they can't expect to go to the super bowl playing like that. Furthermore, Wes Welker shouldn't have gotten the kind of grief that he did for tonight. He didn't lose them the game, the broncos awful defense did. Poor Welker. NE should have kept him.
On another note, at least my Rams won something for once. I may like the patriots but i'll never forgive them for 2002. God knows when the Rams will get another chance like that.

Poor Welker. NE should have kept him.
Why? He seems quite content right where he is.
No one in Denver is blaming Welker. The coaches have done this to him several times this year.....sending him down to catch a punt even though he never has any practice time at it.
To his credit, Welker said what happened was his fault.
That game changed when Rogers-Cromartie went down. Without either starting cornerback, Brady sliced and diced the Denver secondary, as you would expect.
Denver still leads the AFC and control of their destiny, but shaking off this loss won't be easy.
No one in Denver is blaming Welker.
I'm glad to hear that. Wes is great player and while most NE fans wish he was still playing for us we still wish him well and are glad he went to a good team.

I must have looked away when this happen, but when I turned back around coach Tomlin was smiling a wicked smile and now I see why he was actually standing on the field while the play was in progress and slowly moved out of the way at the last moment making the runner flinch and move over a bit and when the play was over he smiled that wicked smile.
The smile says it all to me :yep:
NFL reviews Mike Tomlin move (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10052325/nfl-reviews-move-mike-tomlin-pittsburgh-steelers-discipline)
In addition, the official running along with the play -- who allowed Tomlin to come between him and the Baltimore Ravens' Jacoby Jones-- could be downgraded, according to the source.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's near-interference with Ravens kick returner Jacoby Jones on Thursday night is the subject of “an aggressive review,” according to a league source and is likely to result in stiff financial penalties for the coach and the team, and perhaps the forfeiture of a draft pick.
Losing first round pick will hurt more than the fine ever will. You be the judge.

As a Ravens fan, I think the loss of a draft pick is too harsh. Instead, a significant fine AND forcing him to step down from his recently appointed presence on the NFL's powerful Competition Committee would be just punishment. The humiliation of stepping down may wipe that smirk off Tomlin's face seen after his "maneuver".
The loss of a draft choice would set a dangerous precedent. :hmmm:

The loss of a draft choice would set a dangerous precedent. :hmmm:
It would be huge! If losing the 1st round draft is in addition to the fine I see Tomlin taking his last bow as Steelers coach. It is harsh losing the 1st round pick and the NFL might be looking to make an example. They should make an example of the refs that officiated the game. Why it was not reviewed and ruled after the play I'll never understand. Heck, they could have given a 15 yard penalty or just awarded the TD. That would have been the end of it.

Vikes choke again.:shifty:
A buddy of mine at work is a Vikes fan, and has aired his frustrations a few times to me, Usually as I tug at my 49ers hat, and express sorrow.
I am compassionate.
1. I know what it is like to dwell in the cellar, it hurt worse for me because my team went from dynasty to league joke. It just becomes too much sometimes. I feel the pain, and have a love for the under dog.
2. Poor Adrian Petersen. He cannot do it alone, give him a damn O-line! It might help poor Chris Ponder to avoid eating dirt 3 plays out of 4.
3. The owners of this team are happy with mediocre. Once again a problem I have experience with. Sure the franchise is profiting, but the fans are suffering, spend some money, use your draft picks and trade, take chances!
Vikes problem is clearly coaching, and especially ownership. (IMHO)
(edit : Detroit Lions syndrome, a disease I named. Back in the day they (detroit) had Barry Sanders, the best running back in history, he woulda broke the record but he quit a half a year from doing so, the Lions sucked when they had him, but always hinged their hopes on him. Petersen should leave them, as they seem to have no wish to build around him and improve, only use the name to sell seats and Jerseys, and piss off the fans with 5-8 win seasons,)

You are absolutely correct! Lately, I've wondered about the refs. Their fiasco with moving the chains in Washington's last drive was inexcusable. They should have stopped the game and sorted it out then too.
Texan are claiming some filming is going on again. Seems to me the Texans are just not having a good season.

Saints back to all alone for the division lead, and all they need to do is win any 2 of the last 3 games to win it.
On another note, how many saw that Detroit/Philly game? I love snow games, so I had a blast watching it. I also kept wondering if Goodell and the rest of the NFL were worried if this was a preview of the Super Bowl weather in February?

I can relate partially. I used to hate the 49ers when they were division rivals, but after N.O. left the West it pretty much dissipated. Even the Saints loss to them in the playoffs two years ago couldn't bring it back.
And I even felt sorry for Atlanta during the Vick/Petrino fiasco year. Still hated them though.
Dallas on the other hand, will never get off my list. In fact, thanks to that egomaniac Jerry Jones, my hate has only grown.

Happy with my Niners past 2 weeks especially.
Kaepernick has woken up, and used his feet in key situations.
He engineered a 10 minute drive, including 2, 3rd down and long conversions, using his arm and his feet, in the final quarter with them close.
Crabtree being back helped, Anquan Boldin, once again proving he is worth everything we paid for him.
The fumbled lateral by TB resulting in a Niner td, put the cap on a game absolutley dominated by the red and gold.
My problem with Kaep, is not his play, but his slowness in calling audibles. Too many delay of games.
Harbaughs playbook is notorious for qb reads, something Alex Smith did alot better, Kaep is a great qb, but too slow on audibles. Too many penalties for delay of game, no excuse at this point for that.
I am not saying take him out, he is a legit starter. Just simplify it for him.
He does not abuse running like RG3 did last year, he looks to throw first, just give him more clear cut options, and not make him read every lineup.

Just to have something to talk about due to this is the last two games of the NFL schedule this month for the 2013 season ... cry cry.
Were you aware of the fact that the Oakland Raiders have not had a winning season in eleven years since 2002 when they were 11-5 and that they have not won a Super Bowl since 1984?

If Ravens and Chargers lose Cinncy is in.

If Ravens and Cinncy lose and Chargers beat KC Chargers are in.
Dallas plays host to the Eagles less their number one QB Romo out for the season could be Hollywood ending this one is Sunday night NBC 6:30 pst
We get home field advantage throughout the playoffs if we beat the Bills, which is quite likely, and the Raiders beat the Bronco's, which is about as likely as someone dropping off a million bucks at my front door in the next 30 minutes. :dead:

My TV provider Dish has decided to stop caring Fox for my local channel so I called them up and said, "hey this is the channel that the super bowl is going to be on Feb 2nd"

I got my eye on you Armistead!
Pretty confident, considering our last game was a defensive slugfest decided by one point. We got Crabtree back now, who has been lighting it up, that Boldin doubleteam won't work this time.
Niner nation!
Earning back our respect one game at a time!
WHO'S GOT IT BETTER THAN US?
NOOOOOOOBODY!
Edit: I respect Carolina more than Green Bay, 8-7-1, and getting a home field is somewhat wrong. At least Carolina is elite.

Carolina defense is dirty, not even good, just dirty.
Alot of late hits, punching in the pile.
Referees were horrid, the guy missed a touchdown 2 feet in front of his face.
Boldin not being called for the headbutt, that was called on a Carolina player earlier. Once again 2 feet in front of the same ref.
Carolina...

I just saw the press conference with Cam Newton.
He looked visibly sad, and he is really a nice guy, articulate, and does not give a "cookie cutter " interview.
I did not want to like this man.
Ignore my happy post above, Carolina played a great game. I never felt safe until the end.
That touchdown in the closing seconds of the first half, ughhhh that ref. Ignore the drag spots moron. Then they got pissed when Harbaugh ran on the field to point it out on the jumbo screen in the stadium, and 15 yarded him.
That roughing the passer call was crap too, newton was tucking the ball, that makes him a rusher, not a qb.
I hate the "pulling the skirt of the qb" call.

Typical Sea Chicken move.
Enjoy the 3 months of rain you get.
I can tell you stories from when I lived in Washington.
I lived in a town (Hoquiam), they walk around in winter jackets when it is 40 degrees outside, they got 3 inches of snow, and had no plows, so when it rained on top of it, it ices up, to the point you would break an axle on the interstate if you didn't stay in the ruts.
Longview was ok though, I liked spitting off the Lewis and Clark bridge, and watching the barges drop off logs.
Nice place, in the summer, when it does not rain.
But winter? Yechhhh
And man, they hate the 49ers up there, with a passion. Seahawks Mariners, and Huskies, three things they worship. (Besides rain)

This. I went to the queens game last year, and there were A LOT of Viking fans there, and it was a very pleasant experience (other than we lost:dead:). The stadium is very nice and clean, unlike the open sewer called the metrodome. Although I've heard of problems at 49er-Seahawk games between fans. Welcome back Soops, you disappeared from this forum for awhile...good to see you back. :sunny:
I know you have a smiley face on that statement but I want to comment because I hear that often. Manning has now played what?....21 playoff games? In most of them he was a Colt and they were usually not the better team on the field. Still, his record in the playoffs I think is 10-11.
How many guys here WISH they had a QB that GOT them to 21 playoff games?
@August
All season long, I think both of us knew it would be Brady vs Manning once more. Only question was where it would be played.
Good Luck to the Patriots next week.

This is one of the few threads we can razz each other. Playoff football turns even the casual into a hardcore, no other American sport does it.
I looked into the Seahawk ticket thing, and realized Denver is doing it too, plus they are only allowing all the surrounding states, parts of Canada, AK and Hawaii.
So it's not only Californians being denied.
I welcome the 12th man.
I hope to crush that mystique, and get this Seattle Monkey off our backs.

I am torn on Denver and NE.
I do not "hate" either team, I like both QBs (I tease Peyton a bit, but he is clearly the more mature of Archies sproglets), and if my team wins the NFC champ, niether of these 2 AFC teams would be clearly easier to deal with. So I got no real preference.
But in the spirit of manlyness, Peyton, with all his doubts about his neck, would be a great story. I just wish his story did not clash against my teams tale.:)
Every athlete has a tale to tell, a point to prove.
Maybe Denver and San Fran can face off?

Tom Brady is what got you guys this far.
I have a theory, the Patriots have "the New York Yankee" syndrome.
Where they have been good for so long, it is almost expected for them to have sucess, waxing on the golden age and thinking it will always be like that.
Then when a team does good, such as they did this year, it is minimized because they did not go all the way.
On another note.
My personal feeling is the 49ers have a 49% chance of winning.
I can shout fanboi crap, but Seattle has our number in WA. state. (All the clouds, I blame the clouds holding the sound in the stadium, and the piped in noise they use.)
I put my percentage so close because the Niners are hot, the hottest team in the NFL.

Loving how seattle just won a free one, an obvious fumble, not reviewable, somehow Seattle kept the ball, and our best defense guy gets carted off on a hurt cart.
I am loving the hometown refs. A missed intentional grounding call on Wilson, this obvious Kearse fumble that Seattle keeps...
I love when Zebras make the game, and not the players....
I been resisting calling Seattle Dirty....But it seems they need flags to win....And they might, if you let these crusty old men botch the game up more.
Justice was served, they fumbled again on 4th down at the goal line.

Quite a difference between Kaepernick and Manning. What Manning lacks now in arm strength he is light years ahead in reading defenses and
making adjustments at the line, plus they have a very balanced offensive attack. Though it will be very difficult against a stingy Seattle D.
Will Lynch run wild on Denver's D, we will have to wait and see, but New England certainly did not. And NE's running game is no slouch.

I screamed at Kaep for hurrying his throw.
Richard Sherman?
I love the calls on the twitter calling him a thug.
He is from Compton CA, 57% graduation rate, well over a 4.0 GPA in HS, He graduated from Stanford with a real degree, not some liberal science crap they use to push dumb athletes through.
Crabtree is a cocky dude, his first year after being drafted he sat out a year because he wanted more money, one of his dumb ass relatives was his agent and saw it fit for him to sit out.
Crabs is good, and I like him on my team, no one can deny it, but he is Terrell Owens 2.0, and when Richard Sherman tried to shake his hand, Crabs mushed him. It comes out today, this is the second time Crabs snubbed Shermans handshake attempt.
Sherman spoke out of adrenaline, I laughed my butt off at how visibly uncomfortable it made Erin Andrews, I laughed harder when Fox cut away, I needed a laugh, losing is a bitter pill in January.
I see no problem with Shermans words. He deserves his triumph, and he deserves his respect.

NO 12th MAN. No disrupting playcalls, no piped in noise (yes they do that, I been there, I know. No Hawk fan will admit it, but they pipe in crowd noise on the speakers)
But logic tells me Denver is better, The Seahawk defense will not be a factor, no 12th man among the corporate monkeys who can actually get tickets to a super bowl. If Denvers defense could nullify the Pats, then the hawks have no chance.

NJ also gets the trash from NY. You are not alone. Sporting news constantly focuses on the Yankees. The Orioles get less TV time in MD compared to the Yankees. Even now the Weather Channel is spending more time talking NY and the LIE concerning the snow. Baltimore gets a passing mention yet the state is getting buried.

Seriously about Baltimore and the Yanks?
Baltimore is one of my favorite parks to visit, the people are awesome, no drama if your a yankee fan, I showed up in a Mariano Jersey, my last trip me and this other dude kept buying each other beers when our other team scored, it was a great time. No sour grapes, I got alot of high 5s from the fans on the way out, was a fun experience.:)
I think it may have to do with the fact Baltimore is a second Yankee home? It is an easy drive for us, and the park is beautiful, and the surrounding areas have great dining and such.
Kinda stinks. NJ is right across the river, but Baltimore, 2 states away.

Sherman spoke out of adrenaline, I laughed my butt off at how visibly uncomfortable it made Erin Andrews
I see no problem with Shermans words. He deserves his triumph, and he deserves his respect.
Sherman is a punk and an adrenaline rush is no excuse. He deserves no respect whatsoever for his behavior but perhaps some for how talented he is on the field.
It is sad that the face of that team now seems to be Sherman's rant. I say again, he is a punk.
That being said, there are a lot of good guys on the Seahawk's team and they deserve better because he spoke for himself and not for them.
I just hope for a fair weather Super Bowl and that the Bronco's can find a way to deal with the speed on Seattle's team.

If manning doesn't get hurt that is ... probably his last game or should be.
There is no talk in Denver to suggest he won't play for a couple more years no matter how this season ends.

I said what I said under duress. I am a niner fan, and it hurt.
But he did catch the winning int with the game on the line, why I respect him.
He also shut down Crabtree for the most part, and forced our quarterback to rush for over 100 yards.
I hated his comments, I hated his "choke" gesture at Kaepernick, when that lower 20 something kid will be making twice as much money as him next year. I hated his comments to Crabs, when Erin Andrews did not even ask about it.
But I respect what he and his team did, he turned a game winning TD for the 49ers into a game ending INT.
I am not justifying his comments, I just understand how he could make them, him and Crabs got History from college.
I am a Niner fan justifying this guy. Not some Seattle, happy rah rah 12th man fanboi. (most of which are frontrunners)

You know i've been checking into this a little and apparently it's a long standing issue with many teams and many stadiums. Apparently the NFL has recently relaxed their noise rules to help create a stadium "atmosphere". Meh.
Maybe it's time to put a headset in every helmet and just pipe the QB's audibles directly to them. That won't totally negate crowd noise but it will serve to level the playing field a little bit for the visiting team.

When I went last year to the Vikes-Seahawk game, that place got quiet really fast when Peterson did his big touchdown run. It was like the 4th play of the game. The way i'd do it is allow the QB to broadcast his signals to the players on the field but only once they're all on the line and set. I'd also allow the head coach be able to monitor it but also broadcast plays to the QB like he can now.
On the defensive side of the ball i'd have a similar setup with the middle linebacker in place of the QB.

If true, I have not heard that. Source?
What is being said is that people at the game were surprised at how loud the crowd was......because most Superbowl crowds aren't normally very rowdy or vocal.
Edit:
I wanted to add that there is lots of talk here about the Seattle defense, some comparisons between them and the '85 Bears, and how in the second half they only needed to rush with four and sometimes three guys and got pressure.....even with 7 or 8 dropping into coverage. Denver's team has a long way to go before they could ever come away with a win against that.
Oh, and the occasional crackpot caller who says God made this happen because they let Tebow go. :-?
