I've got two buttons on my UI screen that enable orders for the two screws. I know they came from a mod, but I cannot find which one, nor how to use them.
Help!
I have been through all my documentation, the mods listed in forum download section, and all mods topics -- no mention.

Anyone know about this? I am guessing it is to conserve fuel, using one screw and stopping the other. How?

It's not a mod, it's a patch - Independent engine controls..
You can enable it using TDW's Generic Patcher.. also you have to enable it through the OptinsFileEditorViewer in the NewUIs..

Talking about, still have some troubles using it
When i stop engines, and ask for only one, my speed cursor doesn't respond as intented (yes again :))
I sometimes have to even order back speed to get the cursor working again...
So i'm not really fan of it for the moment :D

I think it's not your computer or something else on your end.. I think it's something wrong with the code in some new patches (perhaps electric engines ratio, don't know).. several people (not English speakers) complained me on this issue via PM.. unfortunately I can't test anything myself now and check it.. I think it's electric engines patch because they said that everything was fine on the surface and all the errors happened submerged..

:hmmm: I'll retest it, because i think it's the same without new electric patches...
I will report soon results surfaced/submerged without patch
(btw, had to deactivate them, because each time i dive, hence auto switching on electrics, speed is always dropping 1 knukle down and do not respond correctly anymore)

I didn't say that I'm sure it's electric engines patch.. it might be any of the new patches.. we don't know what code TDW wrote and we don't understand anything in these issues :)..

Nevermind, i'll post my last test with separated engine :D

So first, electric patches activated or not, i have the same issue :yep:
Surfaced or not, it's the same too.

Then, only my right propeller is working correctly!
BUT rpm gauge is inversed
I have right propeller engaged, and it's left rpm gauge working (the red one).

Each time i activate left propeller (the green rpm gauge is working!), but my speed cursor is not responding at all (as well as big knukle gauge in main room), even though the speed is well running...and left propeller turning.
Also, i can't stop speed. I have to engage both propellers, then order whatever speed, then clic on 0 to make it respond again.

Note that with both prop submerged at very slow speed ahead, i'm running 1.5 knot at 800 rpm both gauges...while with only one prop engaged, speed drop to 1.1 knot and still 800 rpm on one gauge.
Interesting for the least, if i COULD BE SURE noise signal dropped as well, so destroyers have more difficulties to hear me!
Otherwise, completely useless imo...
Would be interesting to test if destroyers have more difficulty to find us running only one propeller...

Thanks guys for the prompt replies and info.
Not being a modder myself, I hesitate to alter things I don't understand.
However...

This gave me an idea. The stock game had a "noise" warning or detectability warning symbol appearing to indicate when you were at risk. There must have been code measuring to determine when to show that symbol.

Maybe using that would help in testing the problems with the single engine patch (s). Maybe something also in multiplayer mode, from the convoy commander role, could help. I've never played the game in MP mode, so that was just a random thought.

Hey have to test this idea! ...and have to reactivate the radius detection stuff btw, to see if something is reduced when running one engine
