Looking to add "Convoy College", the training for night surface and group tactics to the New Construction 43 in TMO RSRD as well as for pre patrol training in 43(when formal training program for night surface and pack tactics started) This would involved intercepting a friendly convoy and making mock attacks. Now, could just put US convoys in and have player shadow them as player would have and make mock attacks but where is the fun in that. Then again, cant attack friendly ships without losing your career. This made me think about parkers tin can 1 in the new construction careers. It's unarmed but can be sunk. That would be great, but would like it to fly a US flag, yet still be an enemy. This way it'd react if it spots you etc but wouldnt start firing at you.Perhaps just put a spotlight on there(in RL training, they would put a spotlight on the sub they detected and sub would be considered lost as the light simulated gun fire)

So how would I go about replacing japanese flag on parker's tin can with US flag, is this possible to keep it an enemy unit while having a friendly flah? Would need to do this to a couple merchants also.Thinking perhaps for "live fire" training in this, the convoys will be "dummy" ships can fire at.

Already started on practice of firing torpedoes at a DD, setting them deep so they run under keel, no risk, if they run under, you got a hit(this is how they trained for submerged attacks in RL) Friendly DD's will react to torpedoes, try to dodge them etc.

Just some ideas definitely want to fold into the mod, but need some help on this. Thanks in advance.

I tried to make a decent practice mission, like what you describe, but less elaborate. One of the problems I found was the the US DD's seemed to dodge the torps very easily, so it was hard to tell if the shooting was any good or not.

I think if you can open up and edit the image file of the ships you could delete the IJN flag, or put in a US flag, and basically make them look like whatever you want. I have no idea how to do this, however.

If you want, you could lower the torp damage to 1pt. and hit the ships without sinking them. You still get the big "explosion" and splash, though. Your way of having the torpedoes run under the ships would probably be more sensible.

I got the idea from practicing on US DD's before a patrol out of Australia, I put a Sims DD in Moreton Bay, practiced different tactics before deploying since was using no map contacts.Definitely helped with estimating speed, etc visually.Set torpedos for 50 feet so no way theyd go off. That and reading about what they called "Convoy College" which started formal night surface/pack training in mid 43.Figured it'd be a nice addition.Key to making torpedoes "hit" the US DD is to fire a spread, like at any DD. Problem is since they wont charge you, cant practice down the throat shots. I figured instituting this training in the campaign starting in 43 and when in new construction in 43 would be a big help. The elements are there, just need to get some things worked out.If could script this, think would have it where if player returns from patrol in August of 43, they are ordered to training. Then perhaps can have pre patrol training(as did in RL) before deploying, maybe for gameplay purposes not have it every patrol. Also, if I get the wolf packs working well enough, would have them in on the training.Apparently the AI fleetboat will fire its deck gun, just needs some crew on the deck and some AA guns.Perhaps someone will be able to make them fire a torpedo or two.

I think it would be better to have the training pre-patrol. This way you could actually test whatever technique you plan to use. After your patrol, you might not have any torpedoes, and would likely be kind of tired out (at least I am).

Well what I meant is the formal training assignments for night surface/group tactics will start around july august 43 as actually did.So if player had a career going before then, returned from patrol, next assignment would be training, then return to base. After docking, patrol orders will be issued. Training before August 43 could be making submerged run and firing on a US DD, putting torpedoes under the DD. Also thought about depth charge indoctrination which they did for new crew. They would be a scope depth with both scopes extended so they were clearly visible then a DD would rush by and drop a couple of charges. This could be accomplished by giving parkers tin can a couple of charges to drop but no more. There is a lot that can done, some for immersion but the training would have actual purpose.Like I said, my training on the DD actually helped.I believe if have friendly ships playing IJN for training that would react to you bia spotlights, even charging at you , evading etc would make it interesting.I know I could somewhat easily build the proper traffic, just need to get the ship issue worked and figure out about to incorporate it into RSRD.
