Okay, not a major issue I guess but it is an immersion killer if running a fleetboat in cooler Aleutians, Kuriles, Sea of Okhotsk or just off Northern Japan or Yellow Sea winter months to see watch crews wearing attire they would have on in south pacific.

There is a mod that give s boats operating out of dutch harbor cold weather clothing, its perfect but unfortunately the crearor no longer mods for SH 4.Would someone with the knowledge please, create a cold weather clothing mod for fleetboats.Enable before patrol is fine via JSGME.

This mod is terribly needed as a mod I am working on drastically improves traffic in RSRD off northern japan, sea of okhotsk, kuriles etc so players will spend a lot of time in cooler climate, immersion matters in this sim.I have tried to figure it out but just not sure what am doing as far as those files are concerned.Someone would please help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely concur, BH.

My old man often recalled with a shudder the fact that the Australian Navy, in all it's wisdom, only issued Great Coats for half of the Watch Crew. That meant if there was a General Call out on their ship in the South China Sea during the Korean "Police Action", half the lads froze in 'Brass Monkey' weather.

One experience was indelibly etched - one night in a gale and freezing rain, the whole crew were scrambled and issued with cutting and hammering implements - whatever they could lay hands on. So much ice was accumulating on the superstructure that the frigate was not recovering from rolling and was getting close to the turn-turtle point. So, for 6 hours they had men clambering all over chipping ice of decks and all superstructure trying to get rid of the hundreds of tons of accumulated cold stuff.

They lost many tools over the side that night when blokes dropped them because they could no longer feel their hands. They kept swapping the great coats - a bit like the old joke about the galley slaves getting new underwear - port watch swap with the starboard! Lots of frost bite that night. :o

So, you have my vote!

ok, here is why

the clothing issue is all or nothing, no one has figured out a way for different clothing to be called for yet based on weather so if you change it to winter clothes then you will be sailing into pearl and midway in parkas and mittens.

yes we all agree there should be weather controlled clothes like rain gear for storms and coats for snow but so far it looks like a hard coded limitation of pick one and live with it so regular clothes is the most practical choice.

I am sure you could do a mod for it to change clothes but that's about the only way I can think of doing it without a weather connected controller to select different clothing files

I get that, I would rather sail from pearl or midway with them in parkas etc than be in the sea of okhotsk with deck watch in things theyd have on it south pacific. Just asking someone with the knowledge to make one.

Ah, see, I knew there was a reason that my crew had to toughen up.. I just thought you guys had invested too much in Ice-cream makers, and had run out of budget for cold and wet-weather gear.

Thanks, mate, for being willing to explain the realities to non-modders.

As I recall, when it rains, my crew shows up in rain gear....

Anyway, you could simply pull the optional cold weather mod from Trav's mod and only activate it during the winter or when you wanted it.

Thanks Amistead, that would work for me. I've been cautious about creating a mod soup disaster, but so far, so good! (I think!)

Domo arigato.

His mod does not work alone, i tried it and it left just a few crew, some inside, some out with cold weather gear on, plus when i removed it for next patrol, it didnt remove the gear, some funny stuff going on.

Armistead, I tried to PM you but says your inbox is full.

just do it yourself BH

you been here long enough to know there are lots of people here who will help you with it every step of the way.

use Paint.NET to do the image files and the rest is fairly simple putting the right files together so it replaces the stock images.
you really will be surprised how easy modding is once you get started. this is your baby so make it happen.

there is nothing hard about modding, it just takes time and patience and the desire to do it.

how will we ever have new mods unless people are willing to make them instead of asking for them? the modders that created all the mods we use have all but retired and moved on so if anyone wants a new mod they aren't the ones who are going to create it just because someone asks for it.

we need new modders and its easy to see you have a desire to make the game better so why not be one of them?

Actually I am (and have been for a while) in the middle of a major add on for RSRD. Adding some traffic in missing areas, some major convoys missing etc. A lot of working to get times and dates just right. This includes Sea of Okhotsk and Kuriles which is missing a lot, thus the request for the cold weather clothing. Also added some ships to certain groups that were missing such as Nagato battleship etc I have looked over the files for the clothing and just draw a blank and was hoping someone who knows what they are doing would make it simple. I have the summer off and it's rained quite a bit so a lot of time to do it.However, I have a trip coming up soon then classes resume so if want my mod out sometime this year, would be nice.I asked the creato rof the S boat winter clothing mod for help because the mod for s boats i perfect, exactly what looking for, except need it for fleetboats.

I suppose if no one is willing to do it, I will have to take the time but it keeps pushing things back.

well AFAIK changing clothes is just taking the image files used for the crew and changing what they look like.

no one bothered with it because it can only be put into the game "wehen called for" and not just left like that.

as we joked about doing pearl in parkas sure looks silly :har:

I don't remember where it is but IIRC its in the textures files but you have to dig to find them since there are a lot of files in there. you can even do the fishermen and hula dancers

Well I think it looks even more silly to be in the Sea of Okhotsk , northern japan in winter etc wearing what crews would have on when the boat is off borneo etc. Like so many things with SH 4, its either or.

look here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Textures\TLowRes\tex\asian fisherman_7

and that's the clothes one of the fishermen wear, it will take a little searching and time to find them all (fishermen, ship crews, warship crews, sub crews) but with patience you will have the mod your wanting
