View Full Version : Thermal layer
Hi,
As in others SH opus, in SH5 we have in data/sounds the Submarine_passing_thermal_layer_INT sound file...but since day one, i've never heard any officer using it :-?
So my questions:
- is the thermal layer existing in SH5 seas?
- if yes, why can't we know when passing through?
- if no, would it be possible to get the thermal layer back?
(sorry if it has been already asked)

Im not sure the thermal layer works, or it has made too deep to reach in the VIIc41 at most.
At the max depth you can safely retreat to is 210 meters, then you start taking damage, they destroyers hydrophones still hear you.

If you have a listen to that file I think you will find
its just a left over from sh4

Sure, as some others sound files and even few dds files...
But wouldn't it be nice if it could work as in SH3/4?

data\Cfg\Sim.Cfg:
Thermal Layer Signal Attenuation
one for each sensor type :hmmm:

did it work in sh4?

Those settings are weird!
They say 1 = no attenuation, so why visual get 0? should get 1!
And how come 3 = 33% reduction while 5 = 20%??
Is it a joke or something?

Perfectly! :yep:

Probably an oversight, but I don't think it can affect the game negatively, since when crossing the thermal layer, you are anyway invisible to enemy watchmen :yep:

easy: :03:
1 / 1 = 1.00 = 100% sensor's effectiveness
1 / 3 = 0.33 = 33% sensor's effectiveness
1 / 5 = 0.20 = 20% sensor's effectiveness
easy: :03:
1 / 1 = 1.00 = 100% sensor's effectiveness
1 / 3 = 0.33 = 33% sensor's effectiveness
1 / 5 = 0.20 = 20% sensor's effectiveness
:haha: on this point of view...of course! :haha:
So, it's working?
If yes, could we get the sound file working to announce when we cross/pass it? :06:

Yes, it should

Watch the video! :yep:
Ok, thanks for this very informative link.
So thermal layers were much deeper in Atlantic than Pacific due to water temperature, and furthermore Germans didn't have equipment to know when thermal layer was reached/passed!
That solve everything :haha:

That's correct :salute:
