My son and his friends for year have airsoft battles in the woods, but one lady constantly calls the cops that they have "machine guns" Many of the airsoft guns are almost exact replicas in weight and style of any gun. My son has several electric WW2 and ever a SAW. They do look and feel almost real. This is not meant to criticize the newbies, I would love to support them and see them learn, but I don't think a CHL class is the best place to start.

The instructor was good, and he threw in some scenarios and asked the class what their response was, such as "you are getting gas and you see two men running out of the store, one carrying a gun: what do you do?" Record it for YouTube with my mobile phone, of course. But seriously, this aspect of the class could have been strengthened too.

The instructor was bemoaning the possibility of having the class shortened from 8 hours to 4 by the state. He said, we covered a lot of material, do you think it could be done in half the time? Yes, easily. Or use the 8 hours with more material, less beginner stuff, and better pacing and more comprehension checks along the way.

Personality wise, the instructor was a real pro. Business like, but supportive. He was an ex-Narcotics cop and casually mentioned several times how had shot and killed bad guys. He also made clear that the investigation and civil trials that follow are very stressful.

Out on the range, he asked for more experienced shooters to go first and I got in that group. I'm not Mr. NRA, but I was worried if I went in the second group, it might turn into a weekend activity. Shooting was done at 9 feet, 21 feet, and 45 feet. I went ahead and used the LC9, which is my carry gun. 9 feet is super easy (I could throw the gun and hit the bulls-eye at 9 feet!), and 21 feet was about 4 feet closer than I usually practice at. The LC9 is super easy to shoot (for me), and like the other shooters in group 1, I had my passing score by the time we moved to 45 feet. The two guys to my right and I decided to go for head shots at 45 feet. I am pretty happy to say I destroyed it. So, watch out, all you red silhouette people!


Overall, I'm happy I took the course, but I sure wish the bar was a little higher. The instructor said when the state was setting up the course, they had a run of the mill DPS trooper shoot the range blindfolded and he passed. I know this isn't Elite Marksman Training but hey, these people will be carrying weapons, shouldn't they be really competent?

As for carrying, probably only going to carry when I work in the cycle shop, which has been hit by armed robbers twice in 2012. Everywhere else I go, I really don't think a gun is going to be useful. But hey! The instructor also pointed out that cops give CHL holders preferential treatment--he said he never gave a traffic citation to a CHL holder. So, there's that :D

Do you guys do free aim shooting or under pressure one when you need to draw the gun and send number of bullets as fast as you can toward the target.
Usually two , three...or more .
It sort of simulates real time situation when things need to happen really fast and adrenaline is pumping....
A good way to demonstrate possible real time ability when things might get tough.

Interesting Neal. Just yesterday I attended the Mass Basic Firearms Safety class as a prerequisite for getting my own Concealed Carry License. Tomorrow it's off to the PD to turn in my application and set an appointment to meet with the Chief.

The class I took was pretty much the same. Laws, operation, some what if's, care and feeding and a little range time. Our instructor was a professional bodyguard and I found him to be knowledgeable and informative.

At this point I decided I better get dressed and brush my teeth. The police came back over to my door and asked if they could search my garage for anybody that may have jumped the fence and would hide in there.

The thing I hate the most about shooting it is you have to make sure the all of the caps are seated properly or the gun will jam:down:, which is a royal pain to fix, especially if you are in a fight:03:. The gun is really fun to shoot though.:up:

An arsenal of more than 300 guns, many of them illegal, has been seized from a Long Island home around the corner from a high school, and the homeowner was arrested, authorities said Thursday.

Jay Steiner, 66, was arrested in late January after an undercover Suffolk police officer visited his Centereach home.
Steiner has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon and is free on bail.
"Wow!" said one surprised neighbor. "That's a lot of guns. It's scary."



"The guns were stored all throughout the house," said Spota, as he stood in front of a table filled with the seized weapons.
In all, 85 illegal handguns and 230 rifles and shotguns were found, as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition.
"He had more firepower than the detectives who arrested him,"
