I put together this compilation of freeware tools and utilities I personally use to edit Silent Hunter 4. You should be able to edit most Silent Hunter files with these tools.

I am not the author of any of these tools and utilities. I only put them together into one convenient download for modders and Silent Hunter players. All are the most recent versions as of April, 2013.

Included are-

Utilities:

- ExamDiff v1.9

This very useful utility allows for the comparison of two files. An excellent way to see how a modder changes files to get the end result. Also allows for easier merging of incompatible mods. * Recommended

- NotePad++ v6.3.2

An excellent text document reader and editor. Has a very useful 'replace all' feature. * Recommended

- JSGME Silent Hunter Mod Installer v2.6

This is 'the' Silent Hunter mod installer. * Recommended

- S3D Editor v099

This is 'the' Silent Hunter modding utility. * Recommended

Paint and 3D:

- Blender 2.66a

Allows for importing and exporting of different types of 3D models.

DDS Converter 2

Allows for importing and exporting of.dds image files into different formats.

- Gmax

Another 3D model editor that allows import and export.

- Paint.Net 3.5.1

Paint program that allows direct editing of .dds image files. Can also import and export most image file types. Limited capability, but useful. * Recommended

- Wings 3D 1.4.1

Another 3D model editor that allows for importing and exporting of different types of 3D models. Best for use when working with .obj files. * Recommended

Hex Editors:

- HxD 1.7.7

A basic hex editor. Decent, but probably not the best.

- XVI32 2.55

Another hex editor with more features. * Recommended

If you ever wanted to try your hand at modding Silent Hunter 4, now's you're chance. :)

Jimimadrid's tools (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=219862) works great on things from SH3 to SH5.

Yes. To view and edit, just use the included NotePad++.
