Could someone that uses SH3 Commander do me a quick favor?
Does SH3 Commander rename or move the EnglishNames.cfg/GermanNames.cfg/FrenchName.cfg in the data/Sea folder of SH3 when "Use Real Ship Names" is checked while SH3 is launched through SH3 Commander?
I have SH3 Commander but I don't want to launch and possibly overwrite my SH3 files at the moment as I don't use JGSME. If someone could check this, that would be much helpful.
Thanks in advance.
No it does not move or overwrite them. It uses its own ship names cfg. file to add ship names/cargo/crew to the patrol report after your patrol is finished. It then will add them to your SH3 patrol report as well.
:subsim:
Edit: If unchecked, it uses SH3's generic names instead. See page 7 of the SH3 Commander manual.;-)

Thanks for the quick reply. Understood.
As far as the patrol logs. Does it actually edit the patrol save files of the SH3 save game files? like the .clg or .cfg files where the save games are? Or does SH3 commander make copies of those files and make the patrol log edits with those copies?
As far as I can tell, it edits the SH3 patrol log .cfg file after you update the personnel file in SH3 Commander at the end of the patrol.

Does the updating of the patrol log happen automatically by SH3 Commander, after SH3 is closed after a patrol?
Are you certain about this?
I would like to be certain because I have created a mod that requires programming, which is almost finished, just need to confirm these facts.
If it edits the actual patrol log files of SH3, which ones does it edit?
These patrol log files are in two places actually.
in Windows 7
C:\Users\(User Profile)\Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\(CareerNam e)
In XP its in My Documents I think.
This is the location. One type of these patrol log files is labled: Log_(Patrol #).cfg
These Log_ files are created once a patrol has ended. The other files are located in
C:\Users\(User Profile)\Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\(CareerNam e)\(Patrol #)
These files are created for each time the game is saved. These files are usually labled: (save name).clg
So, does SH3 Commander edit the .cfg files or the .clg files when using "Real Ship Names"?
Please confirm someone. Thank you.
Nothing is touched in SH3's saved game files in your documents folder by SH3 Commander. Once your patrol is over, and you tell commander to update your personnel file, the only thing it does then is add the ships name, cargo, and crew to the report in Log_(Patrol #).cfg, so that the patrol report in SH3 has the same info as the patrol report in SH3 Commander.

Nice. Almost there.
One last check. Are you certain EnglishNames.cfg, GermanNames.cfg or FrenchNames.cfg are not moved to a SH3 Commander "!BACKUP" folder or renamed WHILE SH3 Commander AND Silent Hunter 3 is running? While in-game, in other words...
And, does SH3 Commander place the Ship Class name in the .clg and/or the .cfg files, like NBBismark, or does it use the stock EnglishNames/German/French Ship name designations like "BATTLESHP BISMARCK" BEFORE SH3 is exited after a patrol and ships have been sunk? For Example, what names are listed when a ship is sunk, after the word "Ship Sunk!" in the .cfg Log_ file of the patrol you just completed, just before SH3 is exited and SH3 Commander changes them for the patrol log while using "Use REal Ship Names". You'd have to alt-ctrl-del from SH3 right after a patrol ends to check that Log_ .cfg file of the patrol you just completed (Patrol Number minus 1 equals the number you'll see in the Log_(Patrol # minus 1, as count start for patrols at 0 in the log files).
I'm assuming it uses the Ship Class names, because that is how it pairs the ships up with the Real Shp Names list that Sailor Steves creates for us now and again, that Sh3 Commander uses.
Thank you for your time.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Thank you.

I answered this myself. Thank you.
SH3 Commmander does not change the actual game patrol logs until you hit "Update Personnel Profile". Or whatever that button is.
