View Full Version : No luck...
Hi,
Decided to stick with TMO 1.9 without any environmental mod because it's the only mod wich gives me a pretty nice sea rendering without this damn fog issue...and just added SCAF + Max Optics for 1.9.
Everything is fine so far, until first mission where i hitted 2 heavy cruiser with my very first 4 torpedos.
- First one sinked after more than 1 hour, got the sinked icon on map, but nothing counted! even on captain's log.
- Second one kept on going almost half body underwater! ...and never sunk...
How the hell can a boat still navigate like that??:

Don't think it's very realistic...
Could it be a game corruption by my many mods trying lately?
Shall i reinstall clean SH4 to avoid those problems? (well for first one, cause second one is probably due to game limitation)

German battlecruiser Seydlitz after the battle of Jutland, 1916. No, the bow is not underwater, but the ship took on almost 5000 tons of water and still made it home.

And the damage.

With good compartmentation and good damage control the bow or stern of a warship could be isolated and the ship kept afloat. More than one ship had the bow completely torn off in a storm and still survived.
In November 1940 the destroyer HMS Javelin had both her bow and stern blown off. The wreck was kept afloat and towed home. A year later she was back in action.

At least your torpedoes weren't duds.
Wow! Very impressive pictures Sailor Steeve! :o
Didn't know it was possible!
At least your torpedoes weren't duds.
:haha: Yeah, for once!
But in the doubt, made a clean install and started a new career (once again!) with only TMO 1.9 and its patch, plus SCAF for 1.9 and Max Optics.
1.9 is really nice on my rig, only missing the 2.5 nice colored map :yep:

Oh my God, that is the most beautiful water I have ever seen :o
My new PC should be ready today, I'm definitely going to install SH4 and whatever mod that is!

Large warships are built to take a lot of punishment with multiple watertight compartments to contain flooding and stuff like that. The Yamato took at least eleven hits from torpedos and several bombs from USN aircraft before she went down. That was one tough ship :salute:

Wait until you hit one like that and the bow goes under and the props come out of the water and it can't go anywhere.
Technically, the bow goes under, the ship should sink, but I have read a few stories of ships running in reverse with a sunken bow nose or towed back to base reversed.

Worse yet, get a hit or two seeing you need just one more torp to finish the job....only to find your stores are empty. :/\\!!
.... seeing you need just one more torp to finish the job....
That's a difference i found between TMO 1.9 and 2.5...
Meaning for same heavy cruiser in 1.9, i usually need at least 2 torp hit to sink him, while in 2.5 i was able to sink him only with 1 torp...
But maybe it could be related to a hull hitting place :hmm2:
There is a large random element. You can't expect to get the same results each time.

I never had the fog issue you spoke of with any TMO. There is an environmental mod, Improved Stock Enviroment 3, I can not run that at all due to the over abundance of fog.

My fog issue wasn't with TMO alone...was with ISE V3 or V2.
Problem is i needed those ISE to get a nice sea rendering :-?
But actually i'm running TMO 2.5 with a french mod that is adjusting few of those issues (fog and sea rendering). Not perfect yet, but in good shape.
Still some adjustments to do for sea, as fog issue seems gone.
