Hi again,

Since i've re-installed SH4 some time ago, i started with TMO 1.7 without any noticeable problems, and then switched to TMO 2.5 latest version...but since, beside the fact i have no changes in weather (see other thread) from day one 2.5 install ---> i get very annoying dark/black areas in my sub (mainly looking at roof, even playing gammas didn't fixed) and sea get kind of dark/black lines reflections.
But the worst thing is each time i switch to cunning tower at night, i get whole sky flashing for few seconds!!...like when there is thunder flash around...:o:o
Clean new install never fixed it.
Running Win7 64, I7 875K, 16Gb RAM, Zotac 580 and latest Nvidia drivers :yep:

So i switched back to TMO 1.9, and all seems fine again :hmmm:
That's very strange, each time i install TMO 2.5 i get those annoying issues.

Any ideas?...or i gonna stick with 1.9 :haha:

Not sure why that would happen, can't recall that I've heard of anyone having that issue. Can you post a few SS. TMO 2.5 makes changes to Env and Scene dat values, but again haven't seen those issues.

Unless you have a "duel" install of the game (there are ways to do this), I'm guessing the problem is from using an "incompatible" mod with the specific version of the game you have. The game "version" is listed at the bottom right of the main game menu screen. To run TMO with it's versions of 1.7 or 1.9 you need to have the SH4 game running at a patched version of 1.4 only. This is a patched version that does not have the U-Boats Missions added to the game.

With the U-Boats Missions added to the game, you'll find the game version listed on the bottom right of the main game menu screen to be v1.5. TMO 2.5 is only compatible to this version of the game.

Also, if you have more than 3Gb of ram with a Win7 64 bit OS, you would do well in using the Large Address Aware app that gives this old game a lift in accessing more ram than the game was first disigned for. More info is found on this thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=202192), or here (http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556) at the LAA thread.

I'm afraid Fifi is not alone, I've just installed TMO 2.5 with RSRDC and relative OTC, main game patched to 1.5. Up to recently I was running RFB with no probs whatsoever, made a seperate install for TMO and have the flashing night sky, it only seems to occur when changing to Bridge view and only lasts for a couple of seconds, it's not nice but I can live with it.

Mods:
1_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5
RSRDC_TMO_V502
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1
Fixed Zero Bomb Load RSRDC
Fixed_CD_sonar_RSRDC
IJN_Radar_Fix_for_TMO2_v1
TMO_Visuals_for_RSRDC
Ship pack 1
Traveller Mod v2.01 for TMO
USS Thresher SS-200
1.5_Optical Targeting Correction 031312 for RSRDCv502
1.5_OTC_Realistic Scopes for 8 to 5 RSRDCv502
1.5_OTC_US Radar from Start for RSRDCv502

H.T.

A couple of things to point out.

First, it looks like you're using the correct version of TMO, RSRDC (& its patch), and OTC with a SH4 v1.5 game.....that's good!
But, I can't speak for all of the remainder of the mods in your list.

The following mods:

Fixed Zero Bomb Load RSRDC
Fixed_CD_sonar_RSRDC
IJN_Radar_Fix_for_TMO2_v1
TMO_Visuals_for_RSRDC

are included in the OTC for RSRDC v502 mod....so they aren't necessary to add.
However, I don't know anything about these:

Ship pack 1
Traveller Mod v2.01 for TMO
USS Thresher SS-200

What they do, what they change, I don't know?
But...... I can tell you when you add mods after these mods (as you have in your list) the changes made by the preceding are lost. Sometimes in whole, sometimes just parts of the changes. The point is if a mod doesn't say its compatible with another mod.....assume it isn't. OTC has a specific edition for both TMO 2.5 and RSRDC v502 (and its patch). It's not compatible with the three mods you have listed above, nor are they compatible with OTC (as far as I know). Again, if you haven't gotten my drift, don't use incompatible mods together.

=========

Second, the concern over the flashing night sky. It could be anything.

As I pointed out with Fifi, his "Win7 64, I7 875K, 16Gb RAM, Zotac 580 and latest Nvidia drivers" could be creating a problem with this older game (designed over seven years ago). Getting the game to access more available memory is always going to help with video issues. Using the Large Address Aware may help him. Will it help you, I don't know? You don't list your system specs.

I can tell you I don't have a video issue with TMO, RSRDC, & OTC on my older Windows XP system (what the game was designed for back in 2006). Sometimes newer, faster, bigger isn't always better! Especially when using older software. Us older guys can tell you all about the DOS era and what happened to DOS games as Windows moved in!

=========

Third, to recap from the previous two.

Don't use incompatible mods. Know what each mod does, and why/how it does it (think of it as "Buyer Beware" advice. It's up to you to know what you're getting into). Know that a preceding mod in your list is overwritten by a mod that's added later in your activation order (usually to its detriment). Make your system operate as effectively as it can, for the software you're using. Tell the game to use more RAM memory (if its available with your modern system), with the use of an app like LAA.

Do NOT be surprised that after using a single mod like RFB (as you've stated), it works better than a mod list that's as long as your arm. More mods mean more trouble unless you do your homework. :03:

To run TMO with it's versions of 1.7 or 1.9 you need to have the SH4 game running at a patched version of 1.4 only

Sorry, but are you sure of that?? :o
On my french forum (Mille Sabords), it says TMO 1.9 IS for SH4 V.1.5!
And in the Trigger Maru read me, it says "Note that the mod is targeted to version 1.5 of the game..."

Also, if you have more than 3Gb of ram with a Win7 64 bit OS, you would do well in using the Large Address Aware app that gives this old game a lift in accessing more ram than the game was first disigned for.

Thanks for that, gonna give it a go!

So i installed the Large Adress Aware + very latest drivers for my GTX 580 (314.07 instead of 310.xx) + the compatibility thing in Nvidia inspector (like in other Nvidia tweeks for SH4 thread)...and flashing sky seems to be gone! :woot:
On other hand, i don't know wich of those 3 changes solved it...maybe all 3! lol
Thanks again CapnScurvy for the tips :yeah:
TMO 1.9 is running very fine now... even with SH4 1.5 :D
Maybe i should try again TMO 2.5 to see if others of my graphical issues are now fixed :hmmm:

Anyway...CapnScurvy, if i may bother you once again:

- Is there a way i can get an identification book with each boats length to work with TMO 1.9?
Just because i need to know each boat length to calculate boat speed with my periscope as i used to to :yep:

With TMO 2.5 and your TCO, it was fine because i got length in it, but now even your SCAF for TMO 1.9 doesn't list the boat length in the manual :hmm2:

Opps's you're right!! TMO 1.9 is indeed an SH4 1.5 version mod. Sorry, It's been a while since I've concerned myself with TMO 1.9!! :88)

Is there a way i can get an identification book with each boats length to work with TMO 1.9?

With TMO 2.5 and your OTC, it was fine because i got length in it, but now even your SCAF for TMO 1.9 doesn't list the boat length in the manual

Well......the length measurement is only good for you IF the visually scaled view of the periscope is accurate to the measurements found in the Recognition Manual. My SCAF mod doesn't correct this. OTC does. The point is, I didn't know the visual view was inaccurate during my SCAF mod days.

I corrected the ship heights with SCAF. But, I had no idea the periscope Field of View needed to be changed to make an accurate measurement with lengths

If there were a reason to move up to TMO 2.5 and the Optical Targeting Correction mod version compatible to it...... the length feature of each ship would be one of them. :)

Thanks for your reply CapnScurvy

Tried this time TMO 2.5 + RSRDC TMO V502 + Traveller Mod with my latest computer tweeks, and it seems my flashing nights are really gone :sunny:

Nevertheless, i still have main submarine room very dark areas on roof.
Even the guy in front the table has dark head...compared to others.
I don't see this with any other TMO earlier version! :o
I suspect it has to do with some TMO 2.5 shadows :hmmm:

I noticed too some changes with main room gauges that are now red instead of standart black/grey...i guess it has been changed because of RSRDC or Traveller Mod?...

EDIT:
Dark room issue fixed by taking the CompoundFilterPS.fx from TMO 1.9 (data/shaders/filters) and pasted in TMO 2.5!!
