View Full Version : Bigger Compass Question
Running Sober's, which means TDW's UIs, with the SH3 style interface on a 1920 x 1024 display and 44 year old eyes.
Lets start with the goal:
To be able to input a heading easier.
Using Real Nav, a degree or two off makes a big difference at the end of a long run and the heading "183, 187, 186, 182 then finally hitting the bulls eye for 185" game is on my nerves just a bit.
It got me missing the big compass from one of the SH3 mods (I'm not sure if it was GWX or MaGUI over GWX).
I saw a zoom level in TDW's options, but I'm nervous about monkeying with something I don't have a full grasp of, I think the zoom level was set at 200 but to me that number is just a random value right now, I'm not sure what it means, 200 pixels, 200 percent of the normal size? maybe bumping it up some amount so it is about 25% larger would work or will that cause problems with the other gauges. Note: I'm only thinking about touching zoom level (mouse in) and leaving the mouse out value alone.

These are percents of nominal size..

The compass already expands when moving the curser over it if using sobers mega mod list .

Singed,
If you are using those MODs there is an easier way to get exact heading. If you have a mouse scrolling wheel that is. mouse over the heading bar (not in big compass mode) and it should pop up a window saying your current heading. If, when you are seeing that current course, and you use the mouse wheel, you will see a 5 degree course change option......once you have that new desired course dialed up...all you have to do is mouse off the heading bar and your new course is ordered. For precise headings down to the degree use the shift key while using the mouse wheel. All is well :sunny:

Two users here have mentioned two ways to input an exact heading. Either way works great but the zoomable compass can be easier to see due to the ability to set the zoom level on it.
Adjusting the zoom level will not cause problems with other gauges. In fact the compass will not zoom until you mouse into it. Once you mouse out of it it will unzoom back to it's original size.
You can't hurt anything by playing with the zoom level. I made the options editor/viewer app available so that doing things like this is a simple matter. If you make a change you don't like simply go back into the options editor/viewer and change it back or change it to something else. Every option in the options editor/viewer has a default value which is displayed to you so you can easily return that option to it's default value.
Hey folks, thanks for the replies:
I'm using the SH3Style option, as far as I can tell the mouse wheel trick doesn't work since I lack the nav bar. It would be so nice if that trick worked over the gauge itself but I doubt that is even something someone could mod in.
Sober, yes, it does expand, but not quite enough for my tastes. It is strictly a preference thing.
I played with the setting in notepad last night and I'm happy with the results.

oh okay...sorry about that. I've only used SH5 enhanced UI.

Oh no, thanks for answering, I'd rather have as much input as possible. I may try the SH5 enhanced interface again, I switched because I wanted something that just looked more like uboat controls.
