I've only been playing SH5 for about 3 months now. I've never been prompted to patch the game. I had downloaded a bunch of mods along with the enabler and the game has run fine...no CTD or errors. I was reading one of the mod readme files recently and saw that it says you must be patched.

I used the enabler to remove all mods, then ran the GU. The patch appeared to install just fine...same with the Ubisoft launcher. I have not yet tried re-installing any of the mods. When I launch the game, everything looks normal until I get an error that says:

sh5.exe - Application Error
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process ID=0x1628 (5672), Thread ID=0x164c (5708).
Click OK to terminate the application
Click CANCEL to debug the application

Not sure what to do here...or what I've done to cause this. I've tried un-installing and re-installing, but same results. Most of the programming stuff you guys do here is well above my pay grade, but I figured I would ask in case one of you salty guys had some advice.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Get Patch 1.2 and install it. Mods will not work until you do that. Here's a link to a thread that has the patch download link.... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=202662

And hopefully you have the DVD for the SH5. Downloads aren't really the good way to get SH5 installed..... especially the Steam download. ;)

Gary, again? Why did you decide that d/l version is bad way?
I realize that you like DVD/CD more than others types of DATA.. but.. :timeout:

V, I say DVD only because so many have been having problems with the downloads. They shouldn't but do.... seems to me it's the nature of the beast.

Just wanted to say "thanks" to everyone for the help! Does it matter that the 1.2 patch has "eu" in it...and I'm in the US? My computer knowledge is very limited...would never have gotten this far if it weren't for the help of forum members posting step-by-step instructions.

Thank you!

Just tried downloading & installing the 1.2 patch, but got an error saying that it cannot be installed with this version of the game. At the risk of being a pain in the a**...am I doing something wrong?

Did you try doing a clean (re)-install of the game? There could be some leftover bagage from your MODs. Next step in your Troubleshooting process would be to uninstall/reinstall/patch 1.2/start game..if good/MOD.

I think you might have solved part of the problem with the EU vs US version. Find the US version.....i've made an error like this in the past. What verison of the game do you have ie DVD, Steam?

Got game via download from Gamestop. Did some searching online for the US version of 1.2 last night and again this morning...but no luck. Will continue searching. Thanks again for everyone's help.

Ok...uninstalled both the game and uplay...the downloaded both fresh with Gamestop app. Tried to launch the game without doing anything else; updater started automatically and patched the game to v1.1.5. Game launched fine after that, but still not at v2.0. Used the enabler to put all of the mods back in and game ran solid. Disabled all of the mods and clicked on the GUexe; game attempted to download the collector's edition patch to 2.0. It appeared as though the patch installed fine, but got a message saying "Silent Hunter has stopped working" and "Windows is searching for a solution" before everything went back to the desktop.

When I try to launch the game at this point, I get the same error message that was in the first post on this thread. Gotta admit...I really don't think I did anything wrong here, but still am baffled about how to get this thing patched to v2.0 and be able to run.

Any ideas, guys?

You need the US version of 1.2. I'm trying to find a link for it but it looks like a to of links are no longer working.

I have it saved on my computer but can't send it via email. I wish SubSim would save it in their download section. Looks like you can even get the US version from the UBI's website. Their SH5 Forums says the link is in a Stickie but I didn't find it.
