View Full Version : Looking for U-Boat Type IXB blueprints/plans/schematics/layouts

I'm currently working on attempting to create a 9B for SH5. I have the ability to obtain meshes from SH3 to use them as replacement, but I'm not particularly happy with the meshes: resolution, quality, detail.
So, while I cannot import the meshes into the GR2 (well, I can, but I cannot change textures atm as per problems that I have reported in TDW's GR2 Viewer/Editor thread), I would like to have a project of creating 3d model of a IXB boat from scratch.
Unfortunately, it is extremely hard to find good blueprints/plans for the IXb boat. I have been able to locate some nice side and top views, but not that many of the front/back views - and I need them desperately in order to make the model properly.
I would appreciate any help!!!
Thank you all in advance!
Max

yep. This one is the closest I could find to a good one.
I also have some very very nice top view from uboatarchives website.
But I do need more detailed front/back views.

Thanks, Trevally.
Been there and found only 2 side/top views with very low res :(
Found even the ones from a guy posing some pics on ubi forums a while back. But most of the schematics are side and top views. :/\\!!

I just took seven high-quality scans from Eberhard Rössler's excellent The U-boat: The Evolution and Technical History of German Submarines. Unfortunately and though the book is packed with diagrams and schematics, there doesn't seem to be a single IXB blueprint in the whole thing. :/\\!!
I have images of IXA and IXD frame lines; detailed deck plans, inboard profile, and sections for the IXD1, IXD2, and IXD1 transport conversion; and a IXC end view that also shows the schnorkel arrangement. There is one more, very large diagram for IXD2 deck plans and inboard profile that I have not yet scanned because it's too big for my scanner. I could scan it at my university's library if you want it.
Would these be useful to you? If so, I can send them your way. I also seem to remember seeing large foldout U-boat blueprints in the university library while doing other U-boat research. I could check to see if there is a IXB there if you want.

Perfect! I think this is nearly exactly what I need!

Nope. I've half-read this design study, as many others, but what I'm looking for are plans for the outside, form of the uboat. Of a IXb uboat atm.
Thank you though!

quality is good. The layers of IX might just perfectly work for the front/back view! Thank you greatly!

Unfortunately, I was not able to locate any IXB schematics at the library today. Also, the library scanners are still not large enough to accommodate the size of the Type IXD1 plan I'm trying to scan. Would it be okay to scan it in two parts? I will try to position it precisely enough to prevent overlap or warping of the image.

Thank you, this will help for sure.
I might see how close the hulls between IX a/b/c/d uboats are.
If they are pretty close, I will be able to use blueprints from c or d to build a b.

Here is how Rossler describes the Type IXDs compared to early Type IXs:
"Type IXD1 would be given a large installation of six 1500hp motor torpedo-boat diesels for high surface speed (20.8 knots); Type IXD2 would receive the normal Type IX propulsion unit, but with a diesel-electric addition for increased range. The pressure hull had the same strength and same diameter as the Type IX. Apart from the diesel compartment, the fittings corresponded approximately to those of the Type IX, but the living quarters and stowage space were considerably enlarged to meet the requirement for greater endurance. The outer hull, however, was rather wider and higher, and now enclosed the whole pressure hull.
At the bow, the S-curve of the Type IX was avoided by using longer torpedo tube flaps, and this lessened the formation of spray at the bow. The stern was now drawn-out in a very slim profile, and the torpedo tubes now were more effective at the otherwise unencumbered stern." (p. 150)

Is is not possible to import a type IXC from SH4 via 3Dmax

Is this a question or a statement???

Question.
I know the SH4 IXC can be exported by means of a .Obj file using silent editor, I also know that the Obj file can be imported into 3dmax and then re-exported back into SH4 by means of S3.
Is there no way the flexible .Obj file format can be used to export into SH5.

My GR2 Editor/Viewer app can import/export OBJ files. This allows you to change mesh data in GR2 files :yep:

Interesting, looks like it may be possible on the surface, as it were.

if you read my original post, you see that this gathering of plans is for a side project. I am doing exactly that - using SH3 and SH4 models to import atm. But they are not very nice models: a lot less detail, rough textures. So, as a side project, I want to start working on a new IX hull.
This will be a long work, as I want to do this model very nicely. I'm not a professional in 3d modeling, so it'll take me even longer. But it is just something I want to do on a side.
Good luck with your project m8.
Type IX is exactly what I need to be hooked again for a few moths after nearly 3 years I last played this game. I hope everything will go ok and we'll see playable type IX in a few months.
I'm considering a donation to you if you make this all happen (high quality model as type VII in SH5, deckwaves, splashes etc, simply all the little thingies that SH5 models have).
Good luck again and hoping all goes well.

Hey keysersoze, could you send me those scans from the library too? I'm working on some game models and, like Mr. Avelany, I was unable to find any front/back schematics. Thanks!:salute:*Hail Hydra*
(Revision: I just noticed that this is a 2 year old thread, so if you don't have it, its all good)

Hello,
This plan is great, but i would like to know what do mean ...
- Mo ?
- Tr ?
- To ?
- TB ?
- RB ?
- K ?
- T ?
- R ?
- U ?
... assuming that :
- F = radio station
- O = hydrophone station
Thanks in advance !

not sure, but:
TB=Treibstoffbunker, Treibölbunker, in this case I think its Tauchbunker / buoyancy tanks.
K=Kombüse/kitchen (not really fitting here)
RB=Regelbunker/?rule bunker?
TR= Trimzelle/trim cell
R= Regelzelle/control cell
hard to say. only saw more detailed plans from TYP VII C and took some ideas there.

Thanks gap,
yeah, have seen that one. Still have it too :)
Unfortunately my main computer is in the storage at the moment, so no worky on this thing. Few things have happened, hehe. Planning on continuing work, however, once settled.
