View Full Version : Help Hydrophone please
Hi All
I am not too sure whether it's me messed up or their is a problem.
The hydrophone following selected target does not work for me in the campaign, but it is working if I try a historical mission.
Any help would be appreciated as I tried to fathom out without success torpedoed once again.

In campaign, furthermore at the start, hydro guy needs points (using Reworked Morale and Abilities) to improve his hearing.
In single missions/historical missions, it may vary a lot...

Been through a lot of Hydrophone interest my self, so I was wondering right off the bat, are you using the SH5 patches from TDW and the UI? There is a lot of hydrophone bugs (actually, out of the box it doesn't really work in the campaigns).
I know you've been here for awhile so I'm sure your game is patched to 1.2 and modded up.
When you say following, you are reffering to the command request for the soundman to "Follow Target"? I have this happen from time to time. I press the "follow target" button on the "Picture" commands at the bottom of the screen for the soundman and every once in a while there is no responce. However, when I press "report closest warship/merchant" I get the position.
I will test this between tonight and tomorrow and see if I can get this to repeat with any of my campaign saves, and hopefully find a workaround. Or at least a reason. This is not a problem that you are having alone, IF this is what you mean.
If not, I have just typed a bunch of stuff for no reason....:O:

Hi what you have typed make sense and yes I have this to. But I was referring to the following contact the station buttons just below the paper thing in top left-hand corner all the other buttons work like send range I hope I've made it clearer

If memory serves me well, there are 2 buttons:
- one for following the current periscope target
- the other for following the contact closest to the current hydrophone bearing
the follow current periscope target requires the persicope to be raised (disable the automatic scope lowering feature through TDW options editor). I don't remember if the target needs to be locked and 'Wep officer follow target' comman activated, but probably not.
When periscope is raised and boat close enough, hydro guy is useless and can't hear anything.
That's a strange SH5 feature.
You have to lower periscope to make the hydro guy working!

Once there is visual contact, Hydrophone doesn't work on that specific contact, otherwize the soundman will still report on all non-visuals.

But don't you think the hydro guy could still report anytime?
The way it is actually is completely inaccurate.
Ok, if we can see the boat, we don't need an hydro report...but sometime with fog, we can loose him in the periscope, so it can be useful to get an other report to head view in the right direction!...
And anyway, in real life, the hydro guy always hear the boat!

Yes, :agree: also:O:. I think that it's a program issue. The program can't do both at the same time for the same target ie; Sound and Visual track. This is not just SH5, but SH4 as well. Probably SH3, I can check real quick but I'll just say SH3 also.
So, even if there's a button for it on the periscope no less, the soundman can't track a target your looking at. I don't know why the button is there.

PS; I'm about to check a bunch of stuff over night here, I'm going to put this on the list...
If it's a program issue, maybe one of our talented programer like TDW :D could solve it!...
Other weird thing about hydrophone: those 2 icons are working ONLY when i sit at the station :06:

One more question though:
- added a new user option that defines the max range (in meters) a contact can be from player's sub in order to be considered for hydro follow nearest contact. Default value is 7500.0. Max value is 30000.0. Can be found under the Hydro follow target tab. (HydroFollowNearestContactMaxRange)

Both of them, I think. But REM settings might have the priority; i.e. if a contact is not detected by the sonarman (outside the range set in sensor's controller) can't be considered for HydroFollowNearestContact.
But this is just my guessing. Only TDW can provide a definitive answer to your question :yep:
:hmmm: Maybe i should increase the distance via the fileviewer, to reach approximatively the REM distances, and see what happens...
7500m is quite short IMO.
