Conning tower changeover and new subs?

Working on a "Don't you know there's a war on?" mod to get stuff like 40mm bofors and SJ radar earlier than they were historically available. Succeeded with the SJ radar, now available in March 42, but the conning towers don't change. Without the late war tower the 40mm isn't an option, if I hack it to make the war start with the late war tower then the 40mm are already included as stock. The idea is to have something to spend renown points on, so what I'd like is to start with early war tower and 20mm, then spend the renown points to upgrade the weapons and radar. Not working since the conning tower doesn't change at the specified time.

Other question, start with an S or Porpoise, get the option to get a new boat from new construction - always a Gato. Is there a way to change that so instead of going from an S boat to a spanking new Gato, some other guy gets the Gato and you take over command of his Sargo or Salmon?

Depends on which version/mods you run. I run TMO2.5/RSRD with Max Optics and a few others. Following my 3rd patrol from Pearl Harbor I was offered a new boat. It was a Sargo Class, USS Shark. After the 6th patrol, I was offered a Tambor class, USS Trout. After the 6th patrol, the USS Trout was modified to have a cut-back conning tower (frees up more firing room for the twin 20MM. Seems to be a logical progression there, eh?
