Type II Interior 3 by postalbyke

Big thanks go out to LucaGaeta, DivingDuck, and Flakmonkey for their hard work on other mods leading up to this one, and for support and permissions for the type II interior 2!

This mod is intended to be installed after Type II Interior 2 (also by postalbyke) (you can find that here: http://bit.ly/UFro4Z )

This mod is not yet complete, I haven't finished all the models, I haven't skinned everything, but I promised to release this by Jan 14, 2013, so here it is! I will try to continue to work on it, but I will be in school, so no promises!

This adds an almost-complete interior to the Type II U-boat (dugout fans rejoice!)

This mod is to be freely distributed and never paid for.
If you want to improve it, go ahead, and please PM me cause I can't wait for someone with better skills to fix it!
Finally, please put my name in the credits if you use part of this mod for your own.

More to follow (eventually!) I'll post and update when I have time!

Thanks for you hard work. You say this has to be installed after Type II Interior 2. I searched all over the place and can not find that mod. Can you help? Thanks again!

Also, if you're disappointed in the overall quality, there's my previous mod Torpedoraum TypII which is just the torpedo room by Tomi99 and others added to the game Type II interior. You can find that here:

Your new work is certainly a good start! I downloaded the torpedo room and that is simply marvelous. I especially liked the attention to detail in the torpedo room such as the submachine gun and leather jacket hanging on the torpedo tube. If your finished complete interior is as good as the finished torpedo room, it will be a great winner! Hopefully when you get a break from school you can finish it up. Can't wait to see it!

Yeah, actually that torpedo room is based on this work here:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?t=141858

The original model is by mikhayl, and was taken up by tomi99 (who has some truly stunning 3d models that he hasn't released yet (to my knowledge))

Have crew members been added to these new rooms?

Did I miss something? I didn't see any crew member models in the Silent 3ditor model in the new rooms.

Have they been placed their from another external model?

Have you tried it in the game?

No, I didn't add crew members to the new rooms, sorry!
I'm not that skilled. I thought about adding dock workers, but hadn't worked out how to get them to interact with anything meaningfully.

Basically, I tried to see how much 3d modding I could get done in three weeks. I may not have time to update this model until summer, so this is just a taster. If you're interested in crew and higher-detail models, check out U-boat HAHD and Tomi99. Both of them have high-detail type II interiors, and maybe even more crew!

Hi postal,

Nice work. Yest I've explored your model much but I do have to ask, is this the historical layout of the boat? I noticed the radio, sonar rooms have been moved. I'm asking because I implement mods manually, and I am after historical authentic models. I'd be happy to release my finished conversion with the addition of previous type2 interior mods all in one, with crew members when I am done.

But first, I'd like to know if the radio room position is accurate in your model, because that will take alot of time for me to implement and to remove the previous things that were in that position, like the navigator's desk/map, and instruments, etc.... Plus the shortening of the hull because the absense of the extra radioroom extension room.

Thank you.

Sorry for the late reply:oops:

According to this drawing:

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~jgprice/images/plansTypeII.jpg

Which appears to be Type IIa or Vesikko

You can actually see parts of that image on the floor, it's how I started the layout. If I didn't have to move the radio room, I wouldn't have. I'm not 100% positive about the sound room, but that's the most likely place.

Hi postal, thanks for the reply.

I think your right. It looks like that radio room has a door on it too. Also, I noticed you took out the captain's bunk and placed a closed room there, right next to the radio room. Is that what the picture looks like? I would think next to the stove and across from the stove are two bunks? That's what the picture looks like to me. Not certain though.

No, that's how I read that, too. I was just too impatient to take apart the electrical and the piping to place the CO's rack there. I guess if I were feeling uppity, I could make the openhatch mod animations open the radio room door.

Meh. Gotta cash my paycheck and finish two weeks worth of physics homework and study for the chemistry test :wah::/\\!!

Wasn't more work for you to remove the CO's bunk rather than just keep it there across from the stove? I think in stock the CO's bunk is across from the stove, right in the command room if I'm correct.... :hmmm:

Good work!

Yes, but it seemed that the CO's rack was immediately adjacent to the cooking area/passageway aft. In the SH3 model, the CO had a small room in that area, which would interfere with the tank outboard his rack. I actually skipped making the kitchen more detailed, too, as it should have a small deep sink right next to the stove, and I don't think the stove is supposed to be a large four-burner affair.
If you look at the Vesikko interior, there's even less evidence of the CO's rack and the stove. I really wish someone would just walk through and take pictures of every square foot instead of the inside of an electric motor, or the valve arrangement on the diesels.

In the diagram it seems to me the bunk is across from the cooking area, across the isle. Or there are two bunks, one adjacent to the cooking stove and one across the isle.

Either way, you are correct about the pictures. Are there any surviving Type 2's?

Shouldn't be that difficult to convince a museum volunteer to snap some pictures and email them to one of us.... Just need to find a sub and some contact info...

Ok, lets do some digging. The plans tell something different so lets get to the bottom of this.

Here is some 360 photos of Vesikko. http://www.kolumbus.fi/mika.ajomaa/Panorama_2.html

You probably have already seen this...

machiavelli
02-04-13, 05:51 PM
It looks like the captains bunk may have been next to the fore bunks in the torpedo room, just with a curtain for privacy as suggested here: http://www.kolumbus.fi/mika.ajomaa/Panorama_2_files/4.swf

It's important to keep the bunk because it simulates the captain sleeping in the game and its a bit of roleplaying.

It seems there are no bunks in the command room or next to the stove. And there are only two helm steering wheels? I don't remember if your mod had any, but the stock has 3. Why the kitchen area was so small must be because of the ballast tanks? or there are oxygen tanks there, as seen in the pictures, and which may look like bunks in the type 2 plans.

postalbyke

The two wheels on the stbd side are the bow and stern dive planes.
The helm is actually in the navigator's nook (tight quarters for the nav and the on-watch helm)

There may be compressed air tanks in the control room, but the large outboard spaces missing there are the midships diving ballast tank. I've got a tank schematic here somewhere...

http://www.dreadnoughtproject.org/plans/KM_Uboot_Type_II_1934//bergungsplan_100dpi.jpg

This is the internal tank arrangement, and there's another (I think on that site) with the same paper and ink that shows hull details for dry-dock and external repair purposes.

I had a similar thought about the CO's rack, but I felt there was a lot of unused space on the port side aft of the radio room, and the schematics do seem to indicate *something* should go there. Also, the Vesikko can't be considered to be a 100% model for the type IIa, as it was a prototype and had different surfaced and submerged characteristics (among other things).

By the way, great looking out! It's very nice to have an informed, well-studied conversation with someone about this topic :salute:

And I'm a fan of The Prince, a fine book!

You do have a point. Unless the Vessko is different in that ballast area, which there could be something there to take up that space, the Type 2 space there may be different. I would like to contact the museum and see what they know. These museum people know quite a bit and there may be someone who knows all the differences between the two boats.

Yes, I often have my nose in good military theory literature.

Just in case anyone wanders through here, my current computer's video card isn't very strong, and doesn't even show interiors on s3d.
Also, school has been very rough with me for this last little bit, so this project got pushed to the back. I am hoping after I a) graduate or b) get some time and money, I can continue this project!

I hope to get some work on this done in the next year, school allowing!

Merry Solstice, Christmas, and New Year, everyone!

There is a working Type II interior but it only has the bow compartment open, it doesnt have the engines like the one from WAC .
I have it in my Black Sea GWX install , it works fine but the type II already has that open-space interior, i was never a big fan compared to the type VII interior that really is something.
Not sure who made the mod, it has no readme .
