Hello Gents,

Some of you might remember me, some might not. I was around all the time with plenty of mods for SH3 back in 2008 and 2009.

Real life got in the way, but now I found myself with some extra time again, and I plan to use it on SH5.

I purchased SH5 about 3 days ago for CA$ 16,99 at ebay.ca and it should be delivered this week.
Meanwhile, I'm interested to know a few details about players here, so I can direct my modding towards them.

The first stop on my modding will be with the soundpack: a major revamp from the one I made for SH3.
This will be an easy start for me, since I'm pretty experienced with sound editing and creation, and will
also allow me to get slowly deeper knowledge about SH5 structure, for when I start modding other parts of the game.

I've also planned on bringing back a few of the good old mods of mine from SH3, like "No Instant Death" and "Thomsen's Ships".
Maybe "Thomsen's Water" too. I'll have to take a look on SH5, a few dozen hours of gameplay, and check what is missing or what can be improved.
For a few here that knows me, know that I have more pleasure modding than actually playing, maybe because I'm compulsive and creative.

In any case, like I said, I'll have to take a look at what's available at the moment in the mods released for SH5, and what can I improve from there.
No need to do something that is already done. But maybe I can help improve a few things here and there.

So, starting with sound:

Main reason for this topic is to gather some information, so I can direct my soundpack modding. I had this problem in SH3, and I want to avoid it for SH5.

I'd like to know what is the percentage of players using either:

Stereo Speakers
5.1 Speakers
Headphones

For SH3 I remember the sounds sounded amazing on my surround system, but I've had many complaints from players using headphones.
So now I intend on modding accordingly to what the vast majority of players is using. If everybody rather play with headphones, then I'll be equipping mine while modding.

If it's pretty balanced out, same percentage of players for all 3 choices, then I guess I'll have to fine-tune some of the sounds for all 3 variants and put all available for download as optional mods.

Well... this looks promising and I'm very excited!

I love this place, this community, and I'm happy to be back.
For someone very into submarines and also modding, this is home to me

Great to have an old hand back!!!

As for me - two plain old, no good speakers bought from the local "Best Buy" years ago. No fancy surround sound.

Hi Thomsen! Welcome aboard! :salute::salute::salute:
It's very nice that another good modder interested SH5. We look forward to your new mods.
I voted for the headphones. When I play, my family at this time often watch TV or listen to music or game sounds simply prevent them focus on what or business. Occasionally get involved in stereo speakers.

Hi!
I'm using headphones and 5.1 speakers.. sometimes headphones, sometimes speakers..
I can select only one item in your poll so I decided to write it.. :)

Great to hear you're starting work on SH5!!

I loved your "Thomsen's Water" for SH3. Used it for quite a while and was always happy with the results. That and a few of your sound mods were always essentials in my mod soup. :sunny:

Welcome back to the wonderful world of modding. Can hardly wait to see what you cook up for us! :yep:

Right now I'm using just a cheap set of $9.95 Gear Head stereo speakers. I also use Logitech USB headphone when I can get them to work. And I also have a Logitech 5.1 surround sound system that is still packed away, as I've go no place just yet to set it all up without ruining the cords.

So my vote would be all 3. ;)

I only play with headphones! Only in the headphones I get real pleasure!

Hi Thomsen

I used your soundmod, when playing SH3. At that time I used headphones very much.
Today I play only SH5 and I have now a fantastic 5.1 system with a lot of sub-power. Always looking forward to new soundmods :D

best regards
Cyril

Welcome back. It's going to be a great year for SH5. I look forward to your ships.

There are already several sound packs available for this game. I suggest you check them out for perhaps saving time.

Since nobody else has said it, I will
Playing with headphones is dangerous. I've had multiple times where I'd be listening to very quiet sounds, like small splashes, and whales. Unable to hear them well enough to figure out what they were, I'd turn up the volume.

Then,wasserbombe!! ping, BOOM,AAAAGGGHHH!!
Rips earphones off of bleeding ears.

Either way , I've taken the time to download most of your other sound packs and manually insert them into my game already. Your deck gun is still the greatest in my opinion. But a 5.1 version would be nice, since my laptop has it built in.

Awesome your in sh5, i hope others will come over. They have made it so much better.

Ya, I neglected to mention that one. Was the best, no doubt. :yep:

Preferably 5.1, but right now using a 2.1 as I just built a new rig w/o yet adding a sound card.
