View Full Version : [WIP] SH-5 Water for GWX 3.0 V0.11 20 Km V32+
I have been overhauling the SH-5 water the past few months. Every scene has been checked and evaluated. Many things have not changed as they were just fine. But I improved a lot of (small) things. My to do list is short enough to give you the first impression. Generally moderation is the key word. I added more reflection and improved a lot there. The day scenes have been improved. The cloudy and rain scene have been greyed and tuned to reality.
Impressions below. I will upload more picture the upcoming period.

I really like the example pics, especially the first one and the one with the tramp steamer :D
Good luck with your work rik007, may you have lots of energy and time with the modding :arrgh!:
Thank you all. Eveningsscene have been improved. Sometimes subtiles sometiles fully. The tramp was shot in a rainy 'sunset' like this destroyer:

Rain during the days is like this:

i like the SHV water - it seems more "noisy", and DD camouflage working well in the bad weather conditions.
Good Job!

I have to go to this sea somewhat quicker!
Looks interesting, when it will be possible to check it?
Wanna compare your work with incoming MEP 4 environmental mod.

I'll certainly give it a look see.
I hope to upload it before X-mas. Good present to you all. I'm also looking in the 3D-models and other parameters in the scene.dat I didnot touch yet to generate new ideas and further optimalization. But that can be continued later as well. @Jaxa & Others: Help, suggestions and knowledge sharing is welcome!
Ok,I'll test it with pleasure.
That's a hell of a job, the grey sky feels as miserable as it should in a cold, depressing war day in the frozen North Atlantic, good job man :yeah:
Excellent work my friend, looking really good. Give me a shout if I can help in any capacity.
Cheers

The rainscene is a very difficult one to mod because:
What looks great today, looks ugly tomorrow
I created a lot of prototypes - sometimes looking very spectacular - which all violate this rule. The other point is that this scene actually is three scenes in one: cloudy, fog and rain.

It looks great. I hope that in the near future mod will be ready.
Thorn,
Before Christmas, and still on schedule!

rik007, in previous version sea and sky look a bit too yellow (too warm). Will you plan to change colour palette in incoming version?

Hi Jaxa. The yellow has been reduced in the afternoon scene:

Afternoon scene in V10 of the mod
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y77/rik007/SH3ImgV11.jpg
Same situation in the upcoming V11. Notice that at Windspeed=0 M/s you will still have waves in V11 as in reality the oceans are about restless.
And it can be greyed out further:

Same scene after applying 40% grey on it:
I use a model for this which alters the game files directly:

Hope you like the V11 version though!

Looks a lot better now.
Looks a lot better now.
Yeahh... it is better. I feel like putting an optional with the release version for the anti yellow-fellows.

The last screenshot looks very good, it should be the proper one for final release imho.
Of course this is always a matter of personal taste, but I must say that while I prefer other environment mods for the day scenes, the way Rik did the nights and the storms is my preferred one. The screens from the last version just take this one step further :|\\
This version is a step forward I think also in day scenes. The colors which I apply are derived from reality. The yellow in the afternoon can be seen be everyone. I will include two version for the afternoon and see what happens.
Indeed it is taste and there are only three wheathertypes to edit. In reality the number of situations is unlimited.
... as in reality the oceans are about restless.
Thats wrong.
