Thank You Yubba! What a great site. I made it one of my favorites for future reference.
You' re welcome, I seen it a while back, everybody is struggle-ing to do interiors why not try this. I'm ok with static interiors it would be better than nothing,,and would add something to the game and wouldn't be a drag on the pc..,, you are the captain you don't load torpedoes or turn wrenches on the engines,,,your job is to keep your men sharp and do the mission and get the boat home afterwards..

What a fantastic site. I highly recommend everyone bookmark this, and take the virtual tour; but clear some time....there is a lot to absorb here.

Speaking of Balao class interiors, how do you pronounce "Balao"?
I always pronounced "Buh-LAY-oh"
Buh as in Bug

dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/balao) says it's
buh-lou (emphasis on 1st syllable)
but I had always heard
bu-lahw
It's from Spanish, so the ao is a diphthong (pronounced together.)
Does the skin drop into SH4? It looks really sharp.

Yes, it's from Spanish, just like Gato. The men who sailed on her, however, pronounced it as Sledgehammer427 described, just as the other boat's crew pronounced it "Gay-toh".

Wow! It must have been really cool to have talked with all the guys from the Balao and Gato personally!

I liked the tour. Really interesting. However,
It's from Spanish, so the ao is a diphthong (pronounced together.)
In Spanish, "ao" is to be considered a hiatus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiatus_%28linguistics%29), so "a" and "o" belong to two different syllables. Just my two cents.

Then what would be the correct Spanish pronunciation?

It would be "ba-la-o" (IPA: /ba.'la.o/).

Was Googling when I saw a link and it dawned on me: Balao isn't Spanish. It's Portugese, with a tilde over the a. (Means "balloon" although that fish doesn't look much like one.) Heard the Portugese pronunciation on-line, but couldn't reproduce it phonetically. Doesn't matter anyway. Everyone will call it what they want.
The On Deck color series has one called USS Pampanito by Robert C. Stern and it is a full tour of the boat outside and inside with nothing left out. This is a great book.

I was in San Francisco last weekend and tried to view the sub, but the pier had no power and the sub was closed for tours. I was very disapointed. I did get to see the USS Hornet in Alameda as a consolation.
At one time or another I had family so far up in the Airforce I got a first class tour of the SAC base in Omaha Nebraska even got to sit in the pilot seat of Looking Glass the 707 type back in the day,, on my 16th birthday, they look more roomy on TV and what did I go and do,,, join the Marines.:/\\!!
