You can't. For this you must use SH5.

i have seen video's on youtube, SH3 with GWX Gold where there was free walking in the Boat. (just installed the torpedoroom Mod for SH3 with GWX)
so it must be possible! (I also have SH 4 heavily modded where i can move freely.)

you have to go to the Zentrale and press shift+F2. then you can move the camera easy trough the boat.

Is there a way to set it up so that when I move the view with the SHIFT-F2 command, the position is saved, so when I go to another station (ie, map, attack periscope, etc), i can come back to look at the same spot again?

I think that SHIFT-F2 is it's own station. It should save your position if you just go there by hitting SHIFT-F2 from whatever station you were at instead of going to the control room first. It won't save your position when saving and loading a game though.

I am sorry to have mislead you as I assumed you were referring to the type of movement in SH5. Free camera movement has always been available in SH3, but is limited by most compartments being out of sector. Some mods have attempted to expand this.
