I am allowed so many officers, so many seamen, but I have so much space for more then what they allow me to have. How can I add more men to my sub?
Allowed 5 Officers, there are 10 officer spots.
16 Petty Officers and 30 Sailors, I want more sailors, please.
Shall I make more enlistment posters :haha:

Not sure but there could be a mod to do this. If not request one and someone will come up with it eventually. ;)

Go to the .cfg file of SH3 and open the basic.cfg with notepad

Find this block (for IX types - similar for type VII)

[SUBMARINE2] --> type IX ([SUBMARINE1] --> TYPE VII)
NrMinOff=3 --> the minimum number of officers required
NrMaxOff=6 --> the maximum number of officers -> change it to your liking
NrMinPO=10
NrMaxPO=20 --> petty officers -- as above change it as you wish
NrMinSeamen=24
NrMaxSeamen=32 --> sailors --- as above change it as you wish

:) Thank You All :cool:
I will now recruit more men into the U-Boat service.

I'd not exceed the typical max number of men in the std crew of the boat: if you don't turn off the fatigue model, too many men means you get too little rest for any of them -- and an exhausted crew is not something you'd like to have at your orders when those destroyers are chasing you.

Maybe you could increase the number of petty officers and decrease that of privates.

This is odd.
A possible solution:
Check the properties of the basic.cfg file (with left click) and see if the read only box is checked. If so uncheck it.

Now try to replace the file.

DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE A BACK UP COPY BEFORE YOU START ANYTHING!

Thank you Admiral,
the box was already unchecked.I had to go into properties and edit permissions for home users and change it,now ok.
I had to upgrade my kit to accommodate the graphics for SH3.
I bought a HP Pavillion with 6Gb ram.It's just learning from XP to Win 7
