Late War Inaccurate Snorkeling?

I read on uboat.net that at least one Type II was fitted with a snorkel, and I wanted to retry late-war Nordsee operations with a snorkel... I've installed the type VII snorkel node on my typeIIa_hd.dat, and have updated the .eqp file (I hope), but to no avail. I am also poking through the basic.cfg and have found some promising entries, but have had no success yet.

Any helpful pointers?

Also, I would like to take command of a type II in the late war without a "cannot downgrade" message. Any way to make a type II the default late-war boat for the appropriate flotilla?

You can specify the uboat type and version in the flotilla.cfg file.
