I liked Hogan's Heroes, but I think it's far from being the "best sitcom ever". :sunny:

My favorite WW2 "sitcoms" from days gone by...

Hogan's Heroes
and
Baa Baa Black Sheep

Throw in some 80's Beavis and Butthead and I could watch TV all week.

There were so many great TV shows back in those days it's hard to believe that there were only a handful of channels.

One WW2 show that hasn't been mentioned yet is Rat Patrol. When I was seven years old I would have given my right arm for one of those cool Foreign Legion Kepi's. Of course now that i'm older though I'd rather have one of those jeeps with the .50 cal mount. :D

Not a sitcom, but since Rat Patrol and Black Sheep were mentioned. Another show I thought was pretty good was 'Combat'

Yeah Vic Saunders, the only Sergeant in the ETO with a camouflage helmet cover. :)

We had Spyforce (http://www.classicaustraliantv.com/spyforce.htm) which was very loosely based on the expliots of Z Force commando units.

EDIT: @Penguin. You posted one minute after I did. You must be one of those "Forum Ninjas" :D

Hogan's Heroes was an ok series, always good for a quick laugh. In comparision to M.A.S.H. it looks very tame: the humor stays on the surface and I miss some sting.

I loved 'Combat' as a child but it's very hard to watch now. They could hold down the entire Wehrmacht that for some strange reason could only kill guest stars. :hmmm:

It's even funnier now when you think about how it was pulled for being too violent. :shifty:

Look for MeTV in the USA. They play all those shows pretty much and even 'Batman' which is surprising because of all the legal mess from all those big name guest stars. That's why we'll never see it in DVD.

Hogan's Heroes is definitely one of those classics that you can just watch over and over again. I almost find the bakstory of the show to be more interesting than the show itself. For instance, did you know that all of the actors who played the regular and recurring Nazi characters (Klink, Schultz, Burkhalter, and Hochstetter) were Jewish? Werner Klemperer, who played Klink, agreed to perform the role only after it was written into his contract that the Germans would never bust Hogan and his band of merry men.

Sgt. Schultz was my favo(u)rite character.:haha:

Spyforce was a wartime espionage adventure series produced by Roger Mirams. Unlike cliched American war films, most of which give the impression that the United States was the only country capable of saving the free world, Spyforce gives due recognition to the role Australia played while also avoiding formula battle stories.

What are you saying? So you mean, U-571 wasn't accurate then. The only reason we won the Battle of the Atlantic, was because the US captured the enigma machine, as potrayed by him:

I thought the first season was great but then they all went from being grunts in the field to some kind of fancy commando force with time to hang out in Saigon nightclubs with their round eye girlfriends and totally ruined it.

LOL Spyforce was made well before the myth of U-571 was dredged from the depths, but maybe there were other US films that portrayed the Pacific theatre in a slightly biased manner.:03:

Wow, I never heard of that series.

In reading the description on Wikipedia, it seems pretty clear where the writers got the idea for the "A" team about 20 years after Garrison.

I grew up watching Baa Baa Black Sheep, that show started my obsession with Corsairs and then Military aviation as a whole. one of my friends and I always watch Hogans Heroes (I even own a 50-mission crush, done up a-la-Hogan)
