As an aircraft addict, it's really annoying for me when I'm leaving base and see what the game SAYS is a Junkers Ju88 because I'm like "Oh look! It's a Ju188...2 years to early." or "Alarm! We are being attacked by a PBY Catalina... With... Three engines!?" are there any mods out there that could correct these inaccurisies?

Starting with v 1.9 onward OHII should feature a proper model of PBY Catalina, originally made by MadMax, but opening its cfg file I see it refers back to the stock unaccurate model (the one featuring 3 propellers), so maybe it is better to ask Trevally on this matter.

As for the Ju88/Ju188 issue, I think it would be enough changing the respective entry in the roster. Wile we are waiting for Trevally to release a small patch for it, you can correct the mistake yourself. Just open Names.cfg file, under data/Roster folder, and change this row:

LBJu88=Ju 88 Bomber

to:

LBJu88=Ju 188 Bomber

or whatever else you want :up:

hmm - how did this get through quality control:D

Easy to fix:O:
Open - data\Air\AS_USFloatEarlyWar\AS_USFloatEarlyWar.cfg

Change this:-
; Stand in for Catalina
[Unit]
ClassName=SUSFloatEarlyWar
3DModelFileName=data/Air/AS_USFloatEarlyWar/FloatingPlane
UnitType=304
MaxSpeed=169
MinSpeed=60
MaxRadius=1600
Length=19.5
Width=31.7
RenownAwarded=40
CrewComplement=8
SurvivalRate=60
SurvivalPercentage=70

[Loadout 1]
Name=1xDepth Charge
Type=5

Thank you Cybermat47 for report the umpteenth SH5 inaccuracy

I am afraid it is not a mistake anyway: there is already a Short Sunderland in game, and the Z501's cfg file is pointing to that model. In other words both of them share the same model, and it seems that devs did so on purpose...

now, can you imagine two aircraft diverging more than these two:06:

Other than being both flying object capable to land on water, they don't have anything in common... :-? :wah:

The really disturbing thing is that IL2 Sturmovik, a flight sim made in 2003-06, and regarded as the best flight sim ever until World of Planes/Birds of Steel was released,was published by ubisoft:o

Yes, I think so: it was a copyright issue.

Silent Hunter 5 was developped by Ubisoft Romania whereas IL2 Sturmovik was produced by the independent software developping company 1C/Maddox Games, and only distributed by Ubisoft ouside Russia. Different software houses, different licenses, different games: you cannot compare them in any way, and their differences in therms of quality are under anyone's eye, indeed :yep:

Finally I have a proposal for you: what about preparing a complete list of aircraft related SH5 blunders, and releasing a patch for addressing at least the worst of them? We could do it compatible with OHII so to allow Trevally to incorporate the fix in the next version of OHII, if both he and you like the idea.

An example about the missing Z501: we could assign to it the AS_USFloatEarlyWar model, unused after the introduction of the correct Catalina model. We could give it the same specs as the historical Z501, but not its aspect of course. Anyway textures can be corrected to resamble a generic italian aircraft, and for love of histrorical correctness we can change its roster name from "Z.501 Patrol Plane" to just "Patrol Plane", or something like that. :hmm2:

Wellington and British VLR bomber appear as Sunderland
Bristol beufighter appears as either mosquito or Beaufort
Ju87 is the tank busting variant

Yes, I can see it from their cfg files :-?

from what I can see there's a model used for Mosquito MkVI/MkXVIII and another one for Beaufort/Beaufighter :hmmm:

Ju87 is the tank busting variant
