View Full Version : When was the international meet of Subsim in Tokyo held?
Hello,
when I read the article of Subsim on Wikipedia,
it said the international meet has been ever held also in Tokyo.
When was it done there?
Just a simple question, kindly advise me.

If there was a real meeting in Tokyo I'm unaware of it.
Having a meet-up in Tokyo would be really cool however! :yeah:

It was a small meeting, if I recall correctly, held by about 8 of the WPL members. I have a picture somewhere.

Well, eight is enough*. I don't recall ever hearing of it.
* Sorry, couldn't resist.
The first ever meeting between subsim/subclub members was in 2001 or 2002, not sure which year it was exactly, but I can remember that you already had to pay your beer in Euros and no longer in Dutch Gulden. Meeting was held in Amsterdam/the Netherlands. It was not a sub-continental meeting, true, but it was a start. Participants were: Drebbel, Dargo, Menno (Bluebeard), Crow, me and another Dutch guy whose name I have forgotten.
The idea came up in the Dutch forum, Dutch= party people. Crow from Belgium joined in and me from Germany.
We met at a cafeteria, drank beer, had some spicy Asian food and then we drank more beer and Crow paid for us all with a brand new 500 Euro note which I had never seen before so far.
Mapuc (Markus);from Sweden who lives in Denmark, who was a feared Destroyer Command Commander during sub club times with SH2/destroyer command and whom I have met twice (second Amsterdam meeting and Copenhagen) will remember Dargo and Crow as well. They were really good at sinking subs during online games. I was pretty mediocre as a sub player but made it to the top ten list of tonnage masters once at 5 th place in May 200? playing four games only because it was really difficult to get a game together in the game lobby where you had to wait for hours to meet people who were actually willing to play.
I later tried out Destroyer Command and managed to sink a sub once by running over it when it popped up. The guy whose sub I sank was a grandpa from England who asked us kindly to chat in CAPTIONS because his eyes were bad due to his age.
Silver Fox as a sub player always ranked first place as tonnage master, some accused him of being a cheater. I remember playing a game with him where he knocked out all 3 human destroyers with one spread of torpedoes. There were endless discussions about realism and amendments to the cherry-picking rule and when sub-players should be allowed to fire torpedoes at destroyer command players. Getting sunk was really frustrating. Those were the days.
^ Ohh those memories. Yea me and Silent hunter 1065 was a great team we sunk many subs.
I do remember sitting on mIRC and wait for hours to get a game started and al those times when we got a blank screen due to some mishaps and then back to mIRC and again wait more hours to get a game.
