View Full Version : Adjusting ranges to suit realistic systems

I have been trying to add to the Astute a Radar and Sonar unit that gave an advantage in war.

I was reading up on the Astute to try and find out the basic range of her sonar and radar for when she's surfaced/ Submerged. I came across a small section on the Royal navy sight that read 'The Astute can hear the Queen Mary 2 leave port in New York while docked in Portsmouth'

So I checked the range and it's 3435.51 miles between the two ports. So I converted that into meters and proceeded to enhance the Radar and Sonar units in the Sensor files, but the problem I have now is that my Submarine don't have a Radar or Sonar on it.

How do I add these missing units and how would I add more equipment slots :06:

The sonar, hydrophone and radar are all in the subs upc file. Check the Balao and/or Gato for the ones on them. Make new sonar and hydrophone or simply modify existing ones.

Problem is in my .upc file most of it's in a different language. when I replace it with English it stops the mod from working, And I'm still not sure how to add anything. It just list stuff and there isn't really anything there that I know all that much about.

Couldn't tell you mate so I decided to use mod with english writing as a base instead lol

Also How would I rename the Submarine to HMS-Astute-S119, and do I have to re do the Id's on everything and if what??
And what is MC01/2/3/4/5/6 nodes??

The roster file is the one that assigns names to the ship you command.

MC01-06. No idea.

Some nodes in the .zon, .sim, .val, .dsd files must have a parent id that is the same as the one in the .dat. The same goes for the conning tower, weapons and radars

HMS Astute S119 is a Nuclear Powered submarine launched in June of 2007. You sure you don't mean the HMS Astute P447?

HMS Astute P447 is a ship of the Amphion Class Sumbarine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphion_class_submarine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphion_class_submarineAlso) Also, since you're planning to add a realistic sub in SH IV that actually served, or was designed to serve, in the Pacific, you might want to consider renaming the ship to HMS Affray. Same class of ship as the Astute. Unless you found evidence that the Astute served, or was designed to serve, in the Pacific. Can't find much info on the Astute for some reason.

Ok so when in game the equipment slot for the radar and sonar are empty, how would I add them??

Make sure the equipment entry in both the Astutes upc file and the upgradepacks.upc are correct. Also, you have to add the radar, radar scope, sonar and sonar scope into the equipment.upc.

It's easy putting it like that but what do I add in terms of txt?? I haven't done this before so writing radar her and sonar there might not do it :wah:

Just copy the stock figures and rename them according to the names you have for them.

the MC-nodes control the position of crewmen working on deck e.g. when they lower a boat for a resupply-mission, therefore, they have to be placed on a suitable place on deck.

And so for my little report of bad news, I went ahead re-assigning the ID's on the Astute, but when I tried using her in a mission it crashed, then I tried using her in career then the same thing happened. I'm currently trying to re-assign them again and see if it's something I missed along the way.

And just a question, Do I re-assign ID's for every node, in all these files.....dat/sim/zon/cam/val. and how do I know which ID to put into the files cfg,eqp, and upc??
