Help installing 4gb patch on SH IV with Uboat expansion

I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong area (can't seem to find a sub forum for technical help like this), but I can't install the SH IV 4gb patch. It keeps saying:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\sh4.exe: unknown version".

I have no mods installed, Windows 7 on an HP Dv7-6195us Laptop (Core i7 2630 QM @2ghz, 8gb of ram, and an AMD Radeon HD 6770M GPU).

I've been pulling my hair out over this for the past week, searching online trying to find an answer. I could only find things about a patch for SHIII, not SHIV.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

That's exactly where I got it from, and that's how I was trying to install it. Anything else I can try?

You don't "install" it, you execute it. It is an executable. When you run it you select the SH.exe file you want to make 3GB executable.

By executing a file, you install something, but yes, that's what I did. Let me post some screens for ya, step by step, of what I did.

You shouldn't have that problem if your installing from a disk, I installed mine fine without problems and play it in no time

And you didnt say if your Win7 is 64 or 32 bit? Your CPU is.

Stanger, that did the trick! There's now a noticeable decrease in the lag, and it's not bloody murder (still is, but not as much) with many fleet reports on the map and I'm using TC. Gonna keep that link for future use, and to give to my friends that have SH IV and can't run the 4gb patch.

On rechecking, saw that, the commentor that I replied to.. hasn't been active... shortly after they posted their comment.

Despite that... this info, is still of relevance, to others who may... inadvertently, stumble across this thread, in the future.

If is any questions on the... methodology of getting a Steam version of SH4 set up, to copy & set up to be modded should arise... & I am still around & not by that time... on eternal patrol...

I shall be more than happy to go over how to, in great detail, how to get that accomplished. However, use of the 4GB patch & any issues arising out of it's use, will have to be answered by those more knowlegable in doing so with the patch.

Myself... I use a downloaded copy of Large Address Aaware, to assign My SH4.exe modded copies of SH4 v1.5 acess to 4GB of RAM.

I find using LAA, as I & others call it... to be relatively simple & pain free to execute.

It's a 3 step process, that is so easy... a cave man could do it.

Your problems clear as day... it's related to exactly where... you have it installed...

where it should not now... or ever be.

In \Program files (x86)

Simplest solution... uninstall... both your games & Steam, itself... from there...

Do NOT reinstall in either of the \Program file locations. Instead, in:

C:\Games (new created folder in C: itself made by you... or on an external hard drive)

After that, should NOT have any issues with patching.

I use Steam & have 9 copied, modded set ups of SH4+UBM, (i.e SH4 v1.5) by the way... & all work as they should.

Op, hasn't been active since... 2019, klemmaniac... so I think that they're gonna be hard pressed to respond... unless, on the likely off chance that they decide to log back in, after being away for so long. Which.. could happen...

Someone send me the SH4.exe from Steam and I'll see about a patch for it.

I don't use anything but 010 Editor to set the LAA switch. Then make a patch file for ease of use.

Make SURE to point it to your SH4.exe! It will not find it on it's own.


Steam versions of the exe are different from the original SH4.exe from the DVD.
So trying to use the wrong patch will fail EVERY TIME!

LAA is the samething as 4Gig patching. It's a single byte change in the exe.
I can do it faster in 010 then any program I've ever tested.

Any details on your set-up? Where did you get the game from? What is the full path of the folder do you have the game installed in? Did you add any mods? etc... ?? btw - Piggybacking in a thread on the 4 gig patch is a good way to "hide" your post. You would be better served with a new thread of your own. Look for the "new topic" button near the upper-left of the screen next time you go to ask a new question. For now though, just let us some details. :salute:
