I've always felt that automatic ship recognition is sort of cheating. I mean: our WO is always giving us the correct answer, even during the darkest night or with the heaviest fog, making the use of the recognition manual almost dispensable. I wonder if it would it be possible to add a percentage of error dependig on:

time of the day and moon phase
weather
officer's experience
officer's morale

Of course the officer should equivocate between ships more or less of the same type and tonnage (a merchant with a merchant, a corvette with a corvette, etc.), and should remark his degree of conficence with phrases like:

It is a ...., sir
I am quite sure it is ..., kaulen
It seems a ..., captain, do you want to have a look yourself?
I am not sure captain, but it could be a ...
I am sorry sir, I can hardly see it
At night al cats are grey, sir

What you're asking for would require .exe and/or .act file patches. Not many can do that and I'm a little busy at the moment :yep:

I had imagined it :yep: ;)

Do you have space in your todo list yet? Giving it a low priority, indeed :D

...and I could have gone on. What do you think of this:

sir, it is a ..., you can bet your granfather's iron cross on it!
yes sir I've double checked, the manual says: "Uekel class medium freighter", never heard before!!?

TDW answered that my idea would have required an hardcoded patch but, seeing what you have done with your Enigma machine mod, I wonder if you could think of a simplified, script-based only, implementation of it... :hmm2:

I'm not really sure if it can be done through scripting but if I find anything related to this idea I'll post here.
