Can I post this here? If not move to where I can.

So to begin, sorry if this offends anyone.

I'll begin at the start.
I got into contact with Iowa101 about his carrier that he began to put into game with help from other modders. Mainly I think Karle94 who properly converted the model into OBJ. After being given permission to carry on with the mod on Iowa's behalf, He sent me the original model, with a list of things he wanted to add to her in order to make her playable largely in the campaign.

I got the model an began to start over with the model first. taking hints and advice from Karle94. after a while, I asked Karle to take the model, I sent him 3 files that were, the Hull, Castle, and an Air wing. Then I asked him to apply basic texture to the model and he agreed, to which I was pleased.
After 5 weeks of waiting and waiting, I finally got sent a link...the model he sent I admit did not click straight away, but when I got it into game I realized that this model was not the one I sent.

The model I sent is the one seen in Iowa101's topic, http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/9900/usstheodoreroosevelt.png

This one. As you can see she's Smooth, with good detail and this is the model I sent to Karle94. When I asked why he sent back his own I got the response 'This one is better'

I'm not saying it won't be easier to accept his model. But to be honest It makes me angry that he decided to substitute his model for mine. I don't want to come across as a twat, but if I wanted to settle for someone else's work I would. All I ask is to be allowed to use my model and not have someone else submit their own, I want to know if Anyone would tell me how to do the work myself, because if this is the sort of thing I can expect then I'm sorry but this forum isn't as Helpful as Iowa made it out to be.

in open forum is not the place to do this, if you had expressed this to Karle94 in a PM then he might have been more then willing to help you do your own version with his guidence.

you come off as somewhat sour grapes that you didnt get what you wanted but i dont think (and would hope) you really meant it that way at all.

if you want help doing it yourself (which is always the best way to do it) you should have just asked for it outright without the whole backstory of how someone doing you a favor didnt meet your expectations.

im sure there may be good reasons he did what he did and in modding things arent ever as easy as they sound so it may have been easier to do with the changes he made but he deserves the right to explain himself in private and give you his explanations.

calling him out like this you may have ruined your chances to get any further help from him and scare away anyone else who doesnt want to be called out if you arent happy with the results of thier help.

My intention isn't to cause any problems and I don't mean to come across that way, I know that anyone who might have helped me, now might not. But if you let me explain why I did this openly then you might understand better.

I used to play Age of Pirates, I once tried adding a ship but had the same problem with getting it to work properly. much like with S3d accepting my model. When I asked experienced modders on the forum they assured me that they would look and see what the problem was and then get back to me.
Three days passed and then I found a model that looked a lot like the one I wanted to add. no matter how many messages I sent after they ignored me and I left the forum.

Iowa101 who spoke very highly of all of you gave me his word that it wouldn't happen on this forum, so I guess when Karle94 sent me his model instead of mine I thought he had disregarded mine because he wouldn't help with mine. And I did message him, He didn't give me a decent explanation so I talked to a friend on a forum for Arma2 and he said to post it on the Forum.

So I do openly apologize and did not wish to aggravate any one, But I have tried many times on my own to do this work myself and failed.
I don't wish to make trouble but I was worried that I'd be treated like I was last time.

It is difficult and we all hope for a good outcome as you and Karle both are clearly hoping to add something nice for us all to enjoy. So lets bygones be bygones and move forward.

In the future it is always better to keep such problems private, for a number of reasons, not just to keep the community as peaceful as possible but also to help respect each person's own self regard, we all want to do the right thing really I am very sure, and rarely do we do things that may disappoint someone else without a good reason. I am sorry for the substitution of another model for yours when all you asked for was help with the texturing, but I am sure that Karle was not trying to steal your model or disappoint you needlessly. Texturing is very tough, i too am wrestling with it currently and it is very frustrating and takes almost a mystical touch i think to make it work no matter how hard we may try.

I hope for a good outcome in this, and in the future, I assure you you can trust people here, I am sorry you had trouble on AOP forums, that community is a bit fractured at times, not all online game related communities are predictable or ethical, this one is, and you can count on it.

Good luck with your project. And you might want to change your Opening Post and topic title to be a question rather than a complaint. :)

the forum here is filled with members that are mature and show each other great respect and often go far out of thier way to help others.

sure there is always a few who lack grace and communication skills but for the most part we are like a big family here.

rest assured you will find the help you need to do your mod and try keeping things on a small scale by taking it one step at a time.

make a thread for a problem you have and when its solved make another for the next issue if it is a different issue that is.

dont make a thread for every little thing but try to stay focused on one issue at a time and you will find things will sort of self explain themselves as you get more into it.

i will change you thread title to "texturing question"

Then I have a question. When I export my model to OBJ from blender after giving it a base material after getting an error saying no materials.
Now I get a message that says:

InvaliedArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'selectedIndex'.
Parameter name: SelectedIndex

What causes these problems. I will suggest that it might be the fact that the model Don't have textures. Mainly because I know nothing about applying them and couldn't even find how to do it.

Any advice??

So I have blender, and was taking a look around to see how many faces and vertexes the model it self has. When I looked a decimate, which tells you how many faces you have before you remove some it says '0' now I'm not sure how a model can have zero and look like this:

http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/9435/backer.th.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/803/backer.jpg/) http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6291/bottoml.th.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/210/bottoml.jpg/) http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/6011/frontqpc.th.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/803/frontqpc.jpg/) http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/1421/leftsideo.th.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/534/leftsideo.jpg/) http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/4613/rightsidef.th.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/689/rightsidef.jpg/) http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/6497/topqt.th.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/19/topqt.jpg/)

The blue is the material, just so it had one, I'm still working on getting it in s3d and then on to textures :-?

Blender is difficult for beginners, everytime they upgrade the program they change the interface so you can't find anything. Also it creates a problem with tutorials since they refer to items that are not in the same place anymore.
Did you make sure the model had quads converted to triangles? Then do a UVunwrap to get uv coordinates and load an image to use as a texture/material. When exporting I always check all under "Blender object as OBJ: I don't know if that is right but it worked.

Now, I know one model that Iowa has just had way too many vertices to be of any use. I do not know if that is the same one, but it may be why it was not "fixed". It would be easier to build a new one than to fix the old one.

My suggestion for Blender is to try some simple objects and do some turorials until you know what you are doing. Start with something simple like a box, convert quads to triangles, do a uv unwrap, add a texture (image is added in two places for the version I have), export and then see if it will import into a "copy" of a .dat file. If that works then move on from there. You will quickly realize your asking how to do it is not a simple, "click this button and you are done".
If you really want to learn then you need to start simple. If you just want it NOW then you might as well give up, you will never know how. There is a Blender pdf manual on Wiki and it is almost 1500 pages. So just realize you are not asking a simple question, so you will not get a simple answer. And you can do a lot of stuff with 3D programs (not only Blender) that will not be compatable with S3D or SH4.

So start with something simple and if you can get it, and the texture to load into S3D then you know how and you can than try the Carrier.

The model he used isn't that big he sent it to me, well within normal size, I know he brought one for £250 from turbo squid. each over a million on vertex and faces..

Just so I know what is the maximum number allowed on each?
