Hmm new computer, runs SH with TMO etc just fine but do get the occasional CTD esp near ports are leaving port to start patrol.Wondering if ther 4 gig patch would help? I saw on the download someone said it's for XP but perhaps itll help with 7? ill admit my understanding of what it does is somewhat limited.
Got this message, "invalid directory" when tried to install patch and this was the default directory. C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific

It depends on what version of Win7 you have - 32 or 64bits; generally you should use 4gb patch on both systems, the difference is its more complicated on 32bits, while on 64bits you just patch the games exe and youre done. Most games (99,99999% of them) are 32bit so cant use more than 2GB of RAM even if system is 64 bits and has 4GB of RAM installed; 4gb patch can remedy that by patching games executable file, but on 32 bit system - to put it simple - you also need to "patch" the system to use more than 2 or 3GB of memory.
I dont know about that 4gb patcher from subsim download section, but there is simple tool (http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php) I use on almost every game I have, a tool that doesnt need installation or anything, just run it, point it to SH4.exe and patch; it will create backup automatically; it may have problems with opening SH4.exe when its set to read only (SH4.exe that is), so uncheck read only. Of course your system need to be x64 for it to work.
But if your system is 32bits and you want to use that tool you have, you can try to run it as admin. Because it may have problems with accessing Program Files directory as this dir is protected in Win7 (with UAC enabled). The read only flag on SH4.exe can also be a problem.
I use the 4gig patch with Windows7 64bit, with no probs. Has cured those random CTD's near busy harbors and large convoys and TF's.:yep:

Got this message, "invalid directory" when tried to install patch and this was the default directory. C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the PacificRight-click on your patch-exe and select "Run as admin..."
- or much, much better: do not install games in program folder... :D

Search for and download the Large Address Array .exe utility. I couldn't get the 4Gb utility to work (said I had a "wrong" version of SH4) but the LAA utility fixed all my CTD problems.
