View Full Version : a Mod compilation [Request]

For new and returning players alike, modding and patching SH III to condition where it feels..up to date can be overwhelming. There are so many different (and excellent!) mods out there, many of them with little complex compatibility issues between different versions.
Grey Wolves has very easy, polished and sophistricated install but much has happened since then. I suspect majority of new and returning players want to try things like Engine rooms and other interiors, super trums, MagGui or OLC, widescreen and so forth up and running. It'd be lovely to have it all in one simple, easy compilation quaranteed to be free of any serious complications between different mods or "wrong" versions of different mods being installed.
Of course, I don't dare to simply ask for a brand new super mod or anything, just hoping for one big friendly .rar file packed full of mods compatible with one another. And a simple easy readme in English explaining briefly what each mod does and what is the correct installation order.
Idea of starting SH 3 again, scouring net for mods, trying to figure out if ModA's version 1.281c is still compatible with ModB's 1.199 is indimitating. I'd love to see a big friendly file that turns SH 3 into..heavily modded state in fashion where everything is well and truly tested and free of compilations.
..Obviously literally everybody has their own idea of an optimal mod collection. It is a very subjective thing. Regardless, I'd claim there's at least 5-10 very big and popular mods new and returning player alike is likely to want on top of his GWX installation. It'd be awesome to have some sort of a core .rar file of these mods out there. Would make returning to SH much less..scary!
Welcome to the forum, helpmerememberme. :woot::woot:
First, I would recommend getting JSGME, and just scour our download section for the mods you want. This is how most of us do our mod 'soups'. Of course, a single .rar would be a good thing, but as you said, everyone has a different idea of the optimum mods package.

Your request makes no sense in my eyes, of course it would be easy just to have just one file with all the mods up to date but every user owns a different machine and has a different need what he wants to be modded. For myself I am using GWX as my base since this mod delivers most of the things I like. For all the other things I use the generic mod enabler for testing and for adding different mods. Until now without any Problems, I also use the modified exe and several other mods side by side withe the GWX-mod. I think you just should start with GWX and then you have a good base-experience, adding some ships isnīt a problem, the only problem I had during the last few years have been with different GUIs. Give it a try and create your flavoured to taste SH III, and for all cases: just backup your mods folder if anything goes wrong.

I fully understand where you are coming from.
The corpse of my GWX + mods installation has been decomposing in mod soup for a long time now. :O:
The only hope we have is here: http://www.u-boot-hahd.com/index.html

Ya its very hard to find the right mods, especially after being gone for a while. Once i get home ill give you a mod loadout that works VERY well for me.

I'm having the very same problem... there is not only a multitude of new great mods that appeared since some of us last played (so we have to look for them), bus solving all compatibility and right order problems may be quite challenging.
Looking forward to seeing your mod load Torplos! (and certainly waiting for the HAHD)

Its fairly straight forward. Ill explain why i didnt use some of the bigger mods also. Here is the list.
NYGM 2.5
NYGM 3_New
NYGM 3_6A
Harbor Traffic Add In
Supplement to V15A3 (JSGME) This is that patch. I think its pretty essential for SH3
Merchant Fleet Mod 3.2
MFM Interim Beta NYGM
NYGM Hi-Res Subs
Thomsans Water v4
Captain America Officer Icons
Thomsens no instand death screen
TMT Mod (NYGM Version)
Racerboys Sh4_effects for SH3 2_03
Haunting Atlantic Wind
Destroyers and Corvettes
Real Depth Charge
British AsdicMkI Final
High RPM diesel Sound mod
IABL ShipsforNYGM_New
Hitman Optics NYGM 3.6
Enhanced NavMap plotting tools
Depth Charge Shake v2.01 Seriously this one is ESSENTIAL for any Uboot kaluen. Makes you really fear being depth charged. Very Violent shakes. Unfortunately this mod seems to interefere with some of the other great mods and causes CTD. MaGui F and FM_New Interiors seem not to work very well with DC Shake.
Ultimate Aircraft Sound Mod
Alternate Dial Faces
O2 Gauges v_2 (this comes with HSIE patch)
So there it is. After im done with this current patrol i will add these mods which shouldnt be a big issue.
TDWs Dc water Disturbances
Torpedo Tubes Fire Final
New_ClearSky_clouds
WBs Decks Awash and Fuel Economy.
The GUI mods like MaGui are great, and FM new interiors i really want, but DC shake changes the cameras.dat which those other mods also use.

Thanks for the welcome U570 :salute:
I'm a returning user so I'm familar with JSGME and very basics of pouring mods on top of my GWX.
Perhaps knowing what I want is a curse of sorts in this case even. For example, I know I want the mod family that evolved from DD's OpenHatch way back then. I want OLC or Maggui, I want DBSM, I want.. well, list goes on;p
It leads to rather complex situation where I'm facing good 4-8 rather large mods and pretty difficult task of testing and figuring out which version of which mod is most compatible with others in the soup.
....For a brand new player, suppose things are bit easier. "Install GWX and you are set. "It is a route trhat served me well enough when I was an utter newbie.
That's the thing though. I somehow have the feeling SH3 won't have that many brand new players flooding in anymore but instead, tons and tons of people keeping coming back and forth. People who really like the game, are still pretty wet behind the ears but have learned enough of the game to know what they want. These people have been spoiled by awesome mods made by an awesome community. These people can be overwhelmed when trying to build a tasty enough soup from the scratch. Installing, testing, playing, installing some more.. if you begin from scratch it is a process that can take a very, very long time. Since you already have a pretty good idea of what you want, have done something similar once or twicebefore and are merely trying to get all working again it is rather..tedious unlike when you were brand new and actually discovering stuff.
Hope this clarifies the...issue and motivations further, rather than being just a mere ramble!
And yeah indeed, " a good mod I totally neeed! " is a very subjective thing. However, I'd guess most people more or less new to SH3 will, in certain stage of the " newbie career", be interested of more or less the same mods. People want to be able to see the engine room, walk around in their sub, have flashy and more authentic user interface(MagGui,OLc)
Last time I tried to re-install a modded SH3 on my new computer, I ended up copying more or less 1:1 the modlist of a very established modder upon noticing mods he keeps running are very close to ones I'd like anyway. Some of the mods in his list had been changed, patched and updated since the list was compiled and I was often unable to find the exact versions of the mods he had listed. Despite all my best efforts, I never managed to cake up a working mixture, my savegames would keep getting corrupted, CTDs would persist. That's where I initially thought of how great it would be to have such .rar:p
Edit,
Thanks alot for the list above, TorpLos! Up to date and detailed listings of mods people use are always extremely welcome to those trying to reinstall it all once again:D

I feel quite the same as you, helprememberme. Note that testing and solving conflicts takes lots of time and with lots of RL work one may lack time and be eager to play rather than tweak with files.
I used the same tactics and copied as closely as I could (I wasn't able to finde some of them) the list of mods once published by Makman94. It's a good approach, I think.
@Torplos: Thanks for your list, it looks really useful, even if I'd rather keep MaGUI than the DC shake, but this is a goog illustration of how personal it is. By the way, I'm starting to think seriously of cerating a new install of SH3 to try NYGM (I always sticked to GWX). And yes, I am aware of the contradiction with what I just said on playing instead of tweaking...

@Kpt.
Yah i know what you mean. MaGuiF is awesome, i got my first 100% manual kill of MaGui. It was actually an attack on a konvoi so i got more than 1 kill. I was absolutely ecstatic and ran around my apt cheering. :arrgh!:
I believe that MaGuiF comes with a fix with DC shake but either i didnt install it correctly or it never worked properly. Lot of CTDs.. So since im being DC'ed more than anything i stuck with DC shake
Have you tried DC shake yet? If you havent, i strongly suggest you do. Throw on a single mission and let the destroyers throw DCs off the racks.
I really enjoy NYGM. I played GWX and it is also wonderful but for some reason i always have better and more intense experiences with NYGM. Plus the NYGM merges easily with HSIE patches and im not computer wiz, at all, so that was a selling point for me.
@rememberme
Hope you can use that mod list well. Some very good mods out there, (small ones) that really add to the immersion.
