Hi y'all,

I started playing SH4 again a couple of months ago and opted for the TMO supermod, which I really liked - but I had problems with going back into the game after saves, the boats engine would sometimes sound odd and wrong, and, worst of all, I sometimes found that daytime had become night-time after a save, which was especially annoying when I was getting ready for an attack - so I came out of TMO and opted for RSRDC instead.

I don't get any problems with this mod, which is lovely, but ( ... you knew there was going to be a 'but' didn't you) it seems a bit too easy and rather hum-drum.

I am now in my fourth patrol (1942) and each time I am sent back to roughly the same place - which is fine, but which is rather quiet, so when I get fed up cruising up and down my allotted area I go snooping about near ports to catch the incoming or outgoing traffic there. I do quite well, but it is almost too easy as the merchants are single and seldom escorted, and I can just pick them off. For me the fun of the game is more about avoiding the escorts than sinking ships and as yet I haven't had any serious engagements, nor have I found myself near enough to any convoys to get involved there, since I have to watch the fuel - so I am getting a bit bored with the same routine.

If I decide to give TMO another try, I assume I would have to start the whole career again.

However, if I try this utility I saw mention of somewhere which allows you to run more than one modded copy of the game ( can't recall the name but I guess it will be in the Mod section somewhere) will I be able to continue with my current career and create a new career for TMO??

Just wanted to ask before I give it a go :)

Hi;
The program your talking about is called MultiSH4. You can run 2 or more different versions of SH4 on the same computer without messing up anyone version. The readme file in the download will explane it better. What it does is give you a chance to make a new game save folder under the My Documents folder where SH4 save all your game infomation (data of the game you save when you leave SH4).

Example; I'm running SH4 v1.5 TMO / RSRDC with OTC v1.5 on the first install of SH4. The second install is SH4 v1.5 RFB / RSRDC MaxOptics IV.

Under the My Documents folder I have for the first install a folder called SH4 all the save data goes to that folder, for the second install the folder is called CUS for the save data for that game.

When you change over to MultiSH4 all you do is make a copy of the total install you have now.
Example; Folder names on my computer
Under "My Programs(x86) or "My Programs" if your running Windows XP.
Ubisoft---
SH4 Custom
---Modded SH4 Custom(this is the copy of the first install)
Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific(this is the orginal install of SH4)

Under "My Documents" folder

CUS(what MultiSH4 made)
----Data for that version of SH4(Modded SH4 Custom)
SH4(the orignal game)
----Data for that version of SH4
The above is how the "My Documents" folder will look after using MultiSH4.

Because you made a copy of the orignal game then you can play the orignal game after you copy. Now you will end up at this point with two dulplicates. Then you can either un-mod the second to change it the way you want and the first one will stay the same.:D

If you need help after downloading MultiSH4 or don't understand the setup let me know.:yep:

thank you Ewall007, I have copied your post to Notepad so I can make sure I do what ever is proper and necessary as I go along. Sounds good!!:DL

With multiSH4, you create two SH4 folders in "my documents" with different names. You don't have the same career in both; they remain separate as if you had them on separate computers.
I often have setups with fairly different mod mixes or in SH3, different mega mods.

Sadly I could not get MultiSH4 to work on my Windows 7 machine ( sob). I did do the 'run as Administrator' and compatibility to XPSP2 configs in Properties - and everything else I could think of - but it stubbornly maintains it cannot find FileManager.dll and exits. Guess I will just have to bite the bullet and start over if I want to give TMO another try....:nope:

Did you install the game in a separate folder, outside of the program folders?
I have windows7 and have had no problems using multiSH4 and SH3.
Perhaps you have a faulty download; if so, re-download it and try again.

Ah, that is helpful Irish. I copied the game folder to another part of the same drive -not C: and backed up the FileManager.dll and then attempted to run MultiSH4 from within that copy. Maybe I did not do something correctly. However, I have started again now with TMO and RSRDC and some smaller mods which Donna pointed me to, and apart from the engine sounding high and harsh sometimes, until I change the speed, all seems tickety-boo. I will have another play with getting Multi installed a bit later on. Thanks for the encouragment :)

Yea, but have you seen it in the winter time? When the water is low, if you hadn't then your in for a big suprise. Where he jumped off is only 20 feet or so deep if it's that deep. He's a lucky guy landing where he did. You mess that up, it's not going to be the fall that will kill you. It will be the rocks heads that you never see until the water goes down.

Nice movie shot though:salute::D. I quit jumping off bridges 25 years ago. The last one I did was an 80 foot train bridge at Parker, AZ over the Colorado River, the depth of the water there was around 35 feet, moving at 12 mph and no rocks.:yep:
