Ok so here is the problem

Am trying to import the SH5 Kiel port into SH3
Is in dat form and shows in game :woot:

Now the normal way of positioning ports and other objects in the Terrain/Locations folder is to add the co ordinates and heading etc on the Locations cfg

Well have done that and no matter what coordinates or heading I change the port doesnt move.

Ok so thought lets try a different way , make the port a land unit.
So placed all relevant parts in the right folders and created an entry on the LND :hmmm:

Same result
Whatever heading change I make the port doesnt move

:damn::damn:

Any ideas anyone ??

A. That's freakin' awesome!

B. I didn't even suspect this would work!

C. Change its orientation and position with S3D?

D. That is ultra-awesome!

edit: I meant C. Change its orientation and position inside the .dat file using S3D....

Did you attach StaticObject controller to the main node in the dat file?

@ postalbyke
yeah could change position in dat using S3D though would prefer to do it the correct way esp as need the TGA for HB_Kiel to show correct ingame also. Plus dont think would get the final position as needed just by using the dat positional changes.

Wasnt sure it would work either but if you dont try you never know

@DarkWraith
No - the dat I used for import was already an ingame dat and just replaced like for like nodes etc
Not noticed that controller on any of the dats I checked with S3D
Will look into that tho

Thanx for the suggestions :yeah:

Maybe you accidently deleted the StaticObject controller?

Hey M, I'm glad to see you've got back into modding importing some SH5 pieces. If you meet with success I may happen to play SH3 a bit once again.

Good luck !

Hey Alex

Hope all goes well with you :D
Just started playing again myself after a long time away.

Was surprised noone had bought some of the ports over as far better than the stock SH3 ones.
Still gives me a challenge.

Next thing with be to do the HB_Kiel.tga which may prove a problem as normally take a shot from above the object but this port is far too big to see all at once
:rotfl2:

Still modelling I hope ?

While you're doing this maybe you can fix a couple of huge mistakes the devs made.

1. The u-boat bunker at Kiel wasn't opened until 1944.

2. Wilhelmshaven never had a u-boat bunker.

Am not importing the bunker into SH3 as you quite rightly point out wasnt there till 44 and no one sails out of it then.

Sh5 is a different story - have removed the bunker from there before now but all other port buildings went too :hmmm:

Well, in SH5 all the action takes place inside the bunker, so it's really screwy and hard to fix anyway.

:hmmm: despite adding a StaticObject controller it still refuses to move

Best of luck to you, my friend !
Hope everything is fine with you too, honestly I've not been playing this game since... Don't even remember when, and I'd say that only some revolutionary mods such as harbours looking closer to the real ones than the SH3 modded ones could make me play it again.
Still modelling I hope ?
I do, just not for this game any more, hehe.

Have to say this one not going well and about to be consigned to bin

Harbors are a different creature from other things in SH3/4
No Tool exists that one can see what they are doing unless you go into the Game a zillion times!!

After a long time thinking about things and working on Tools for different Games?

I'm going to look back into finishing some things I had access to.

May be it will sound silly... but you didn't forget to insert a marker (empty) chunk: Type 5, subType 0, dataSize 0..?

Doesnt sound silly at all Anvart
All help appreciated :salute:
S3D doesnt give the option to add a type 5 chunk - goes from Nodes = 4 to Properties = 6
No 5 :shifty:

If you did your *.dat file (Kiel port) from scratch, you have to add Type 5 marker...
Use S3D, you just export this chunk as *.rawchunk file from stock dat-file and then import into the beginning of new file (after Start chunk).

Maybe this will help you..? :06:

P.S.
Even easier it can be done with HexEditor... :03:

Ah thanx Anvart
Will give that a try and yes a hex editor may be easier in your hands but in mine :damn:

Appreciate the help :yeah:

I guess I'll have to wait till I get my new computer and try to kitbash GWX, LSH, and/or WAC :P

Part of the problem comes from the way SH5 handles things and SH3 handles things.

To use the port models in SH3 will reqiure breaking up the SH5 models and placeing them by SH3 standards.
Not an easy job by any means!

I looked at what is involved and I say, Good Luck to anyone that attempts this!
