Type II Interior 2 by Postalbyke (with many thanks to LucaGaeta, DivingDuck, and FlakMonkey)
This mod will replace the conning tower with one more closely modeled after design plans for type IIa u-boats and pictures from the finnish submarine Vesikko (which is the design proof for the type II class). I have also included the Diving Duck animation files to make the attack periscope in the conning tower raise and lower, and some trickery to make the internal periscope head turn where the scope is looking!
This mod is JSGME ready!
Warnings:
I modified cameras.dat to work with MaGui. It's not essential to this mod, but I like the effect it has on the bridge view and the "numpad 0" function.
I modified the Commands_en.cfg to move the periscope inside, and for H.sie's V16A3 fix.
I modified DD_interior.anm and DD_interior.dat, this *may* affect you if you have any DivingDuck interiors.
This product is unfinished. I haven't fixed the light to come on, the graphics on the gauges don't line up 100%, and I haven't set any of the camera work inside the conning tower. I highly recommend using control room free camera (shift+f2) to manually go to the conning tower.
This mod is to be freely distributed and never paid for.
If you want to improve it, go ahead, and please PM me cause I can't wait for someone with better skills to fix it!
Finally, please put my name in the credits if you use part of this mod for your own.

Slight update: taking time off playing the game to fix that bloody light, then maybe try to figure out how to raytrace and implement shadows on wings3d or something...

I have since fixed the red striping and some of the uv on the interior scope head :D Still working on that light and the lightmaps... wings3d imports what I want with no drama, but doesn't move it around the way I like.... I might have to revamp some of the models so they work in wings *ugh*

Anyrate! every time I "fix" the light, I get a floating black square between me and the light, or the light is shining through the grating around the light, but not the light itself... Any pointers on how to mount these things? or should I just go lift a light from something else?

Thanks! Right now I'm working on some better uv's and that blasted light bulb... I've got some leads, though, so pretty much all my time not spent playing SH3 or working is going into that :D I made a really pretty CT that the game wouldn't open (all I got was a big empty space above the control room), so I'm going to try to re-make that :P
I also got the light to show up on some objects but not others, so I'm troubleshooting that lol

So it seems that the type II u-boot had an "observation size" periscope in the conning tower? Interesting. Is it historically accurate? :06:

IAW the drawings, the attack scope was a single-piece scope like the obs. scope.
I really wonder if they didn't use the increased turm size for IID to install a larger CT and depth independent scope... Although there still isn't much room belowdecks...

I would like to release the texture and light bulb fix at the same time.
Any arguments to the contrary? Wishing the AEF would just change the light bulb? I am open to early re-release.

PostalByke how are you.Just today I was searching for TypeIIa pics and hit a revelation.Amazing pics and even 360 degree panoramas of typeIIa.I seen this post and went to look for the pics and it just took me 1/2 hour(Google and Youtube can be picky if you do not word exactly as before it seems).....but oh so worth it!!! Enjoy:)

Yeah, dude! This was my second stop after finding a high-quality blueprint of the type IIA somewhere in google images. The interior of the conning tower was based on the panorama and the view up from the CR. I'm poking at doing an engine room/torpedo room for SH3, but it's a pretty big undertaking, and I mostly just love to play the game :P Modding is just a hobby for when I don't want to track tommies for mommy.

Yes,its crazy how things pop up in the internet and then you lose them in a flash.Whats crazier is how depressing the TypeIIa interior really is.When HAHD is done I might get sea sick from it.:doh:

I have been following HAHD since 20 Feb last year. It's almost the only reason I have a subsim account. It's definitely the only reason I started modding. At first it was just going to be a graphics mod for type II and some harbor equipment work, and that's what I wanted. Since then, it's grown significantly, and I grew weary of waiting for the type II work. So! I am creating a stopgap for myself until HAHD comes out (since it will be the better product). And why not share what i've made from other people's work? :yeah:
So in short, I did this for myself, I'm releasing it for others, I'm waiting for what's better.
Seriously, have you seen the screenys from Hans' 3d editor? How can I compete?

Yeah, still no news there, so I'm withholding until I can get in firm touch.
As to the Conning Tower, I still haven't done any more work (been too busy playing the game :oops: lol) just dumped three torps into the same coastal freighter with three torpedo failures (first patrol) after being caught on the surface by airplanes while pursuing damaged escorts (eleventh patrol)... early war is tough! :P

I'm going to try this with the type XXIII in the late war, it also had a standing periscope, it is the little things like this mod that keeps me playing! If I had the knowledge I would do more than tweak skins and mod sounds I would pursue the type XXIII full interior. What alot of painful work that would be I am always out on patrol.

Sorry, I've been offline due to playing too much SH3 :P
I've decided to release what I have combining the torpedo room and the CT for type II.
I'm also very passively pursuing a complete interior for type II since I haven't heard anything from tomi in a while, and I'm still chomping at the bit for HAHD :yeah:
hopefully tomorrow I'll get both of my rigs running nothing at the same time so I can move files and post them to the web.
I've still not finished my shading/shadowing in the CT, sorry everyone who is waiting still for that :oops:

Ok I got it, thanks for the help, the problem was the popups that where coming up, i just hit repair download and i got it. Thank You Mate:yeah:
Just installed it but it doesn't seem to work. Used original stock files, copied all iles in all folders to a folder called "Original Interiors" then put the new files in, start sim and i get as far as the control room then the game shuts down. I bought the Encore version of the sim and tried to put the update patch in but not sure if its already updated on CD. I had this thing all tweaked out till i had to dump pc and start from scratch a while back, now its all the original files that come with it, is there something missing i dont know about???
