View Full Version : RA Mod or LWAMI?
Hi everyone,
after long absence I decided to install DW on my laptop for long train rides and situations like that, I haven't played it since 2007.
Now I have lost track on what Mods are best for DW. I have read about the RA mod correcting a lot of bugs like the non-working wake homing torp on player ships.
LWAMI features better models instead.
which one would you recommend, or can I use both of them, or are there some other suggestions?
thx in advance....

Hi and welcome back.
You cannot use LWAMI and RA Mod at the same time. (I mean, I guess you could, but you really shouldn't because it would break everything I think.)
The LWAMI team has done some great work in fixing bugs and other issues with the game, but they are limited by the license agreement in some areas.
The RA Mod team, on the other hand, have made some changes that would be considered illegal under the license agreement. I think the RA Mod team are overseas and hence aren't too worried about getting in trouble. (Something like that.)
LWAMI adds NON-playable vessels and makes changes to senors and weapons. Many missions that new were designed for stock DW will not work correctly with the LWAMI mod because the sensor ranges have been changed on many of the vessels. The new models are nice, but I don't care about those things personally.
RA Mod adds new PLAYABLE platforms. So if you are interested in driving ships or subs that are not included in stock DW you should check out RA Mod. I am pretty happy with the stock playable platforms, but that might change in a few years when our navies have moved on to newer subs and us subsimmers are still driving around in Cold War era boats.
I am not going to recommend a mod for you. I have tried both of them, but I think I prefer LWAMI at the moment. I've used RA Mod for a few minutes, maybe I will give it a longer try in the future.

Both are great mods. My preference is the RA mod purely because I can drive different subs.
The only thing with RA mod, you'll have to install into the stock game and is no reversing should you wish to install LWAMI. You'll have to uninstall DW and start from scratch. RA is not JSGME compatible whereas LWAMI is so LWAMI can be activated and de-activated.
Ok thanks, ill try the RA mod then, since I got room for two installations should I no be happy with the results. ;)
And I personally am pretty happy with cold-war subs, I mean, what modern day action is going on out there? Virginias fighting midget subs, rusty iranian kilos and launching TLAMs. Not nearly as exciting as the nerve war of sub vs. sub going on in cold war scenarios. ;)
does anyone know if xabbarus' sub models are compatible with RA?

The RA mod can be activated and deactivated via JSGME, but making it compatible is a chore as the RA team don't offer it in a compatible form.
In a nutshell, one needs to apply the RA mod to a patched stock install saved elsewhere. Then copy those files and folders that have been updated or added to a new RA folder within the JSGME-created MODS folder found in the root folder of the original DW install.
It's tricky, but it works.
OK, the question with the xmodels is obsolete, I installed RA and noticed it replaces all the models with new versions, which are, for DW standards, awesome. ;)
My only Problems are now that I run the Game (sucessfully) on Linux using Wine, it runs fine except for the crash issue when starting a mission with any 668 or 668i, but since this is not mod related, this thread is solved, thx.

I haven't got DW install on my PC but since by early next month I'm going to get DW, I need some insight on 2 major mod (RA & LWAMI) which one is the most realistic (in term of environment modelling, sonar, radar, weapons, etc) ...??
