can anyone tell me if its possible to use the campaign.rnd file from another mod. Basically I was having CTD using supermods and needed to return to a stock build. Im trying to cobble up a simple essential mod from parts of GWX. Specifically, I would like to use the campaign from GWX and I figure I might be able to get away with using only the .rnd file. Im pretty sure the other campaign files would not work.:salute:
Any light in this area would be apreciated

Yep you can use the rnd from any mod you like
BUT
Any units named on that rnd must be added too or CTD
Can send you a list of those units if you PM me your email - message too long for PM

hey bigboywooly, thanks alot for your fast reply. I was planning to use the stock ships plus MFM if my system can handle it. Will those work with GWX? I heard that merchants dont need to be specifically in the .rnd, is that true?

Yep you can use the MFM units no problem and will show ingame
I did send you an email showing the units named on the GWX rnd so either those units are added in as well or you change those entries for stock ships which may be a better option just a lil harder to do
Generally on the rnd most entries are just class specific ie
[RndGroup 1.RndUnit 1]
Type=102
Origin=British
which will use any merchant in the british roster
However there are quite a few named entries also
[RndGroup 1565.RndUnit 5]
Class=KGN
Type=102
Origin=British
The above entry will look for the KGN unit ( Large Merchant ) in the British roster.
As this isnt a stock unit you will need to add in or change the entry to match a stock unit
If you open the RND in notepad and use the replace function
"Find what " KGN
"Replace with " KLS
etc
In addition the GWX RND will use a lot more countries than were included with stock Ireland,Honduras,Bulgaria etc so those countries rosters will need to be added in as well
And if you add those in then you will need the flags.dat so they have flags

No problem
Should also say if you replace units use a like for like
In other words replace a merchant with a merchant not a tanker
Merchants have entries for external cargo tankers dont and the game can throw a wobbly when tries to load a tanker with external cargo on
Similary replace a warship with one of similar speed etc as patrol boats will have waypoints with faster set speeds so if the original ship has entries calling for movements at say 20 knots and your new units only has a top speed of 15 knots game will usually CTD
All the above learnt the hard way :rotfl2: replacing existing units with newer ones during GWX construction

thanks alot I got your email, and thanks for the support. To make it simple, is there a set of folders from GWX that I can just copy over along with the .rnd? So basically a strip down version of GWX thats only the campaign section you could say, due to technical issues related to my setup I cant seem to play the full mod. Going through each entry would be too much alas:yawn:

Well you can try copying the Roster and Sea and Air and Submarine folders over along with the RND and give that a go
You may need the library folder also
Pretty much most of GWX lol
Give me a while and see if can strip down the RND to stock units only
My own game keeps crashing and have had enough of starting patrol 22 6 times now

yes, its been so bad for me that I alsmost gave up my beloved SH3! But what to do?
I think we may be on to something becuase if you can put this together-essentialy a "GWX lite" which really contains the basic gemaplay but with out the bells and wistles, it would be enormous asset to the community. Im sure many people would be interested.
In my research I am becoming conviced that the save game crashes have litltle do do with the saves themselves or being near the shore or near another shp etc, but something within the campaign files. When something goes wrong there is CTD on load every time.

Well it wont be perfect as there will be some unit types " adjusted " as no point adding them all in or be back to square one.
Have deleted a lot of traffic as well that belongs to nations added in extra so will lighten the load somewhat.
Running validation on it now and then will run a few patrols to check ok

ok cool, then I will run some testing with various mod loadouts, including MFM ships to see how it does. I will not use any other mods thast use campaign or ship/roster files:salute:
